Dear Mr. Fuhrsman:
I am writing in response to our telephone conversation and the
advertisement in the Minneapolis Star Tribune for the position of
Finance Director.
As found on my enclosed resume, I am currently employed by Abdo,
Abdo & Eick as a Manager. This position and previous experience
has given me a significant amount of expertise in governmental
accounting. I have worked with many cities on a variety of
projects. Some examples of projects I have been in charge of
involve assisting clients when they do not have a current Finance
Director, converting manual accounting systems to computerized
systems and teaching employees how to use the systems, and
performing troubleshooting assistance when accounting systems are
not functioning properly.
I am extremely interested in the position of Finance Director for
the City of Andover. I feel that with my past experience,
dedication to performing the best possible work I can and my
willingness to work with others on a team basis, I would be a
valuable asset to the City of Andover.

To Whom It May Concern:
Please accept this letter as my application for the position of
Finance Director for the city of Andover. Enclosed is my resume'
which includes employment and educational experience. I will be
happy to submit references upon request.
My career background has been entirely devoted to the municipal
finance area. I have been employed as the Finance Director for the
City of Shorewood for the past six years, responsible for the
overall management and administration in the Finance Department.
During this time, I have been involved in the implementation of a
new computer system, automated the budgetary accounting system,
implemented a new budget format, assisted in the development of a
five-year capital improvement program, and prepared and submitted
the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the GFOA Award
for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program, which the City was
awarded for the first time for 1992. The city's bond rating during
this period has been upgraded by Moody's Investors Service twice,
from Baal to A1. Prior to assuming this position in Shorewood, I
was employed by the city of Falcon Heights for over 10 years in the
same capacity.
I have been an active member of the Government Finance Officers
AssQCl.:>.tl.Qn and h~"p ~"'rveo as a chair and co-cha ir of various
committees, and as an At-Large member of the Executive Committee.
I have also served as a member of the Association of Metropolitan
Municipalities Revenue Committee.
I am very interested in the Finance Director position with the City
of Andover and welcome the opportunity to discuss it with you. I
believe that my experience in the area of municipal finance would
be a valuable asset to the City.
