Morphew would like to be contacted if a task force is put in place to explore a teen center.

YMCA Update
Memberships continue to be above goal. The Andover YMCA has the 2 " largest number of members in
the state. An open house was held the weekend of Thanksgiving to help promote membership sales —
this open house was free to the public where they could come in and try the YMCA services at no
charge. Cookies with Santa was a success again this year with an estimated 200 kids participating. The
slide in the kids' stuff gym is scheduled to be replaced.
Staff Update
Advisory Committee Term Update — The city council has revised the by -laws to allow community
center advisory committee members to serve longer terms. The city will appoint council and planning
committee members after the first of the year.
Restructuring Staff — Erick has announced that Cindy will be moving offices allowing her to focus more
of her time on creating new partnerships and generating additional revenue rather than answering the
main phone line and assisting customers at the front desk. She will also be spending time on expanding
current programs as well as generating new ones. Concessions Supervisor Elizabeth Brouse will be
working from the front information desk as well as some of our current part -time evening and weekend
staff.
Reviewed the staff status report.
Other Business
Ice Arena Conference Room Usage Request — Darren Lazan, Jeff Martin and Bernie Knox, Members of
MN Hometown Hockey made a formal request for approval to use the ice arena conference room as a
storage area for miscellaneous pieces of dry -land hockey equipment. A longer term vision would
include an addition to the building for year -round dry-land purposes. The commission would like Erick
to set -up a meeting with AHYHA, MN Hometown Hockey and the AHS Boys /Girls Hockey Coaches to

discuss the needs of equipment storage as well as room scheduling. Once meeting has taken place,
Erick then will email the commission with their findings.
Ted Butler mentioned that the city will be forming a task force to investigate the possibility of building a
sports type dome structure in the city and possibly youth hockey would want to consider that as a future
option as well. It was also mentioned storing equipment in the city hall complex warming house during
summer months.
Field House Fatality — Erick provided the commission with details of an incident that occurred during
open basketball in which a young man suffered a cardiac arrest and died. The community center staff
acted responsibly and with the assistance of an Andover volunteer firefighter, the use of the AED was
implemented and 911 called. Staff members involved with the incident have been contacted by staff and
city human resources, counseling has been offered.
Next meeting, February 13, 2012, possibly the teen center tour will be held.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
