Erick provided an updated on a couple of items. The YMCA has approached the City of Andover and has asked that a gazebo /shelter be constructed at the Northeast corner of the YMCA Community Center property. The shelter would be © similar as to what is located at Sunshine Park. This area would be used primarily for the YMCA's summer power (daycare) programs. Currently each year the YMCA has put up a tent and picnic tables in this area. By the end of each summer, the sod is in need of repair. A meeting has been scheduled between the YMCA, Erick, and the City Administrator to discuss thin option. The YMCA has also requested that the carpet in both meeting rooms be replaced. Installation will take place coming up here in the next couple weeks. 2010 Budget Discussion — Tabled until next meeting. Staff Update — Staff reviewed the staff status report. It was mentioned that staff should look at offering Tot -Time Learn to Skate lessons — Cindy will begin researching to see if there is enough interest in a weekday program. AHYHA will be purchasing nearly 180 hours ice hours this coming summer, about 90 more hours than in previous years. This will reduce the number of hours utilized by St. Francis. Frank suggested that staff look at what other ice arenas around the country do during the summer months April — July to generate revenue not only inside their facility but outside as well. North Suburban Home Improvement Show will be held in the field house on Saturday, March 19 from 9 am — 3pm. All commission members are encouraged to stop by and check out the show. C Andover YMCA Community Center Advisory Commission January 31, 2011 ® Page 2 The youth center is now open Monday — Thursday and is now being staffed by the YMCA, Youth First, the Oak View Middle School Sheriff Liaison as well as Laura Landes of the Anoka County Sheriff's Dept. The YMCA is also starting to host a Teen Dance/Night once a month at the community center in the field house and games /activities in meeting rooms A & B. The commission thought it would be a great idea to include an article on "giving back to the community" and include the new outdoor ice rinks /warming house. Presentation — Mike Quigley was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his previous participating on the Andover YMCA Community Center Advisory Commission. Mr. Quigley's term expired and he had chosen not to re- apply. The new business commission representative appointed by the Andover City Council is Tony Howard. The Commission welcomed Mr. Howard back to the Commission. Other Business — Mr. Howard thought it would be a good idea to start thinking about how we can give the center a "facelift" making things look new and improved. He also indicated the importantance of adding on a Youth Center to the facility. Erick mentioned that Allison Wait will be meeting with Jim this week and will be discussing a number of items including a youth center. The commission would like Ms. Wait to provide an update regarding the youth center at the next advisory commission meeting.
