Adjournment Community Center Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes Monday, August 8, 2011 6:30 pm Andover YMCA Community Center Meeting Room B In Attendance: Tony Howard, Mike Knight, Erick Sutherland, Ted Butler, Kate Morphew, Derrick Johnson and Frank Kellogg (arrived at 7:15 pm) Absent: Allison Boes and Jason Hemp Call To Order 6:30 pm Approval of Minutes —July 11, 2011 minutes approved as written. YMCA Update - July membership sales goals were met (120 new units). Terminations were held at 80 (term goal of 92). - Sanding and refinishing floors in Studio 2 and 3, August 8th — 15th. - Minneapolis and St. Paul Y's are currently in the process of moving to a new operating system. Anticipated "go live" date of Monday, August 8tn. This is a very exciting time but will have many bumps along the way. - Pool will be closed for annual maintenance and cleaning August 31St — September 1 ltn Staff Update • Reviewed the staff status report. • Crosstown Masonry has begun fixing the brick that had been identified as needing repair. There were just enough bricks left over from construction so additional brick has been ordered to have on -hand for future repair needs. • Pool roof issues are still being worked on, Erick will follow -up with project. Other Business — • AHYHA Update — On -line registration has started. • Teen Center Tours — Will take place October l Otn. An agenda of the tour will be presented at the September advisory meeting. • Increased Revenue Ideas — The commission was given a handout which indicated a variety of revenue ideas that staff have identified. Additional items the commission included were: • Look at other community centers out - state. What activities /programs do they offer? • Offer space to school district - extended programming space needs. • Utilize green grass area's outdoors. • Increase adult activities — dodgeball, wiffleball, kickball — adult broomball, day 3 v 3 hockey leagues, movie nights, teen spot after football & hockey games. • Contact local restaurants — alert them when activities are here at center and partner with restaurant with money- saving coupons /discounts to customers. E Kate Morphew asked what our operating cost/rock -bottom prices are for field house and ice arena to break even on an hourly basis. Erick will check data ... those figures had been calculated at one time. Next meeting, September 12, 2011 at the Andover YMCA Community Center, Room B. Items on agenda will include agenda for teen center tour scheduled for October and revenue building discussion. Meeting adjourned at 8:34 pm. Activities/Proiects o Working with YMCA and Developing a joint print piece brochure flyer —producing in -house now. Continued Programming September 2011— May 2012: • Tot -Time Open Gym — Mondays & Tuesdays, 10- Noon Admission $2 child/Free YMCA Children — Begins, September 12th • Tot -Time Group Fitness — Wed & Thursday's, 10 am — 11 am. Instruction provided by YMCA Staff. Admission $2 child/Free YMCA Children. — Begins, September 14th • Indoor Walking Club - Monday — Friday — 5:30 am — 9:30 am — Begins, September 12th • After School Youth Center, Monday - Thursday 3 - 5 pm Staffmg provided by YMCA, Youth First and Anoka County Sheriff — Beginning in late September • After School Free Student Open Gym - Monday — Friday 2:50 — 4:50 pm . Begins September 12th Programming/Events/Revenue — Future • Business Expo — Exploring Options to offer Business Expo. Andover EDA has supported idea, and discussion is taking place with a local marketing person to help with this event. On -hold possible for 2012. • Field Trios o Develop a Tot -Time Field Trip Brochure and mail to Northern Suburban Area Daycare Centers - will add bounce house options — Mailing to go out Fall 2011 • YMCA — Membership Sales Ideas Revised 9/1/2011
