HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 15, 1970 A meeting of the Grow Township Zoning and Planning Commission was held December 15, 1970 at Anoka Senior high school. Chairman Norm Stout called the meeting to order at 8:05 P.M. with Commission members Bradley, Christenson, Jones, Lundgren, and Rither present. Town Board Supervisors Appleby and Schneider also present. Discussion was held regarding proposed Snowmobile Ordinance. Herb Perry, Committee chairman representing the Crooked Lake Sno-Barons Snowmobile Club, stated that his organization recognizes problems caused by some snowmobile operators and would like to assist the Township in drafting the proposed ordinance. Perry stated that his organization is in contact with local municipal and County officials and are working for a uniform, county-wide ordinance. The State, City of Anoka and City of Coon Rapids codes were discussed, with emphasis on hours of operation, operation on private and public property and public streets. Discussion was held regarding snowmobile impact on wildlife. Bradley presented examples of the possible adverse effects of snowmobiles on wildlife, discussing yarding and bedding areas and the added stress placed on wildlife during a period of natural stress. Bradley noted that the machines can also be an asset, pointing out that in past winters, snowmobile owners cut and hauled browse to the yarding areas in northern Minnesota. Perry stated that his club had scheduled a meeting with County Attorney and Sheriff to formulate a County ordinance. According to Perry, their goal is a "reasonable ordinance, one reasonably enforced so that both sides are helped." Club member Trueman Hulegaard to attend County meeting and report to Commission on January 26, 1971. Discussion was held regarding status of new ordinance pub- lication. Appleby stated that Winner had received Zoning Map from Urban Planning and Design and was updating the map. Rither noted that Winner was to have revisions completed and presented at meeting. Appleby stated that Winner was attending an out of town meeting. Rither stated that the committment to the Commission should have been kept.
