HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 8, 1973 G~f)W Tf)W~SIiIP MINUTES OF THE GROW TOWNSHIP PARKS/RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING - NOVEMBER 8, 1973 - CROOKED LAKE SCHOOL Meeting was called to order at 7:50 p.m. by Chairman Trueman Hulegaard. Attendance: Present: Britton, Griswold, Newell, Lapham, Hulegaard, Heidelberger, Schneider, Bradley Excused: Sloth, Kappelhoff Guests: Lawrence Carlson, Winslow Holasek, Phil Rzeszutek, Bonnie Hoffman, Joyce Lutz MINUTES - REPORTS - COMMUNIQUES Motion was made by Jerry Lapham, seconded by Jim Griswold that the minutes be approved as read; motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Because this was a joint meeting held with the Town Board many outstanding items were handled. First item discussed was Cedar Crest park. Discussion revolved around the amended bids for dredging the pond. The Town Board moved to accept the bid of Hulegaard Excavating; job to be completed this Fall, weather permitting, or no later than June 1, 1974. The hockey rink was discussed; Jim Kappelhoff turned in a sketch map of the entire area around the Town Hall. The Town Board asked that three members of the Park Board go to the property and choose the best site. Hulegaard, Britton and Lapham will pick site at one o'clock Monday, November 12, and will report back to the Town Board at the Tuesday night TO\ffi Board meeting, November 13. The Town Board moved to accept the deed for Meadow Creek park and the deed will be given to the attorneys for filing. There was no decision made by the Town Board on whether or not to have warming houses on the rinks this year. Lyle Bradley suggested the type of house that could be on wheels and removed each evening. The fence for the Chapman Park was discussed. Trueman had worked up a very detailed report on costs, which was reviewed by the group. The report also contained sizes of material and stated that the posts must be set in concrete. We will ask the neighbors to help install the fence. The TO\ffi Board approved expenditure of $150 for fencing materials. Dick Schneider and Sylvia Britton has reviewed the half section maps. We have added two parks - Hartfiel Estates and Meadow Creek. NEW BUSINESS Costs of water trucks were discussed. Commercial Landscaping charges $18 per hour; H & S Asphalt charges $15 per hour for flooding the rinks. General skating rinks will be planned for Round Lake, Chapman (if they prepare the area), Shady Knoll (if they prepare the area), Cedar Crest, and Crooked Lake. A rink at Crooked Lake School was discussed, but the idea was tabled until next season. / Minutes of Meeting - November 8, 1973 Page 2 The Town Board approved the acceptance of Jerry Lapham as a member of the Advisory Board to replace Dean Oslund. Jerry Lapham will contact Anoka (City of) regarding flooding skating rinks and will present information in writing to the Town Board as to how much water is required to flood general rinks and hockey rink. Motion made by Lapham that this be investigated; seconded by Griswold; carried. The group discussed baseball fields for next year. LeRoy Clem, president of the Soderville Athletic Association would like to see a lighted ballfield in the area. Lawrence Carlson explained how his field is used during the summer without lights. LeRoy Clem will be invited to the next meeting to help set up guidelines for ball diamonds. Lawrence Carlson mentioned that a snowmobile trail called Rum River ~~lti-Trail was being set up which runs the length of the Township, beginning in Bunker Lake Park and continuing to near Mille Lacs. It will also be used for hikers, etc. Security lights at various parks was discussed. Supervisor Holasek of the Town Board moved that the Township install security lights at Chapman, Shady Knoll parks. ~btion seconded by Carlson; carried. Chairman Carlson brought out the subject of Birch Ridge Park. He will put some restrictions on the deed stating that this park is to be used only for wildlife purposes and will not be leveled for ball diamonds, etc. After the deed is completed he will present it to the Township for acceptance. PLANS AND OBJECTIVES There will be a tour of the Township park areas on Saturday, November 24. We'll meet at Crooked Lake School at eight o'clock a.m. Motion was made by Griswold, seconded by Britton that the meeting adjourn; carried.
