HomeMy WebLinkAboutMarch 13, 1975 \ ) OFYolANDOVER ~ MINUTES OF THE CITY OF ANDOVER PARKS/RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING HELD MARCH 13, 1975 AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER Meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Chairman Jim Griswold. Attending in addition to the Chairman were members Britton, Heidelberger, Lapham, Rzeszutek. Guests were Russell Lentz, Green Acres; Anna Mae Germundsen, Donna M. Vomela, and Coletta M. Rognstad, all from Quickstrom Addition. The Minutes of the February 13, 1975 meeting were read and approved on a motion by Jerry Lapham, second by Cecil Heidelberger. OLD BUSINESS Jerry Lapham moved that we take proper once in the spring and several times in Motion seconded by Britton; carried. steps to oil the hockey rink at least the fall before the ground freezes again. The letter has been written to the Council requesting permission on behalf of the Andover Lions Club to name a ballfield after the Lions Club. In return they will finish the ballfield with their labor and their funds. 8 Glenn Smith's bill for snowplowing the hockey rink was discussed. Due to a misunderstanding the bill had not been submitted in proper form and had been delayed. No action necessary. The possibility of using truck trailers for warming houses at the hockey rink was discussed. With a little refurbishing they could be made to do quite nicely in lieu of a more expensive building; generally the trailers are given away free for the hauling. No action taken. Phil Rzeszutek moved that we ask Burton Kraabel Park for the ballfield and to haul it in before Motion seconded by Cecil Heidelberger; carried. the City Council requesting same. to haul fill into Northwoods the frost is out of the ground. Letter will be written to Phil Rzeszutek stated that he has a friend who will put in sand points at Langseth, Cedar Crest and other parks provided sand points for the additional parks are approved. He will be in touch with the gentleman regarding this project. Phil Rzeszutek turned in a copy of the deed to Green Acres Park. Phil was instrumental in obtaining the deed from the attorney's office and seeing that it was properly filed. NEW BUSINESS \ 'J Motion was made by Sylvia Britton, seconded by Jerry Lapham that we request equipment for Green Acres Park as requested by the residents in their letter, which is attached to the February 13 minutes, in an amount not to exceed $1,500. This amount will include equipment, grass seed, redi-mix and any miscellaneous items needed to complete the project. A letter with the above request will be submitted to the City Council for their approval. A maintenance person for park upkeep was discussed. The names of Clarence Smith Parks/Recreation Advisory Board Minutes - March 13, 1975 l) Page Two and Glenn Smith were submitted as possible candidates for the position. This will be discussed further at the next meeting, at which time a job description for the position will be drawn up. The job would include mowing parks, brushing, flooding and plowing skating rinks, painting picnic tables, installing and emptying trash barrels, tractor maintenance, maintenance of playground equipment, etc. The representatives from Quickstrom Addition submitted a listing of families and numbers of children in their area. They are requesting a skating rink for next winter. Jerry Lapham moved that we take the Quickstrom Addition Skating rink under study and advisement for the future; motion seconded by Rzeszutek; carried. The letter written to the Council asking permission for the Cedar Seekers 4-H Club to plant trees on various parks was read and approved for signing and submitting to the Council. A letter will be written to the Council asking that we automatically be put on the agenda for the second meeting of the month - third Tuesday - so our items of business can be handled in a timely fashion. ) A letter will be written to the Council requesting permission to order seedlings and transplants from the DNR for planting in the spring of 1976. Order dates are from September 1 to March 15 of the following year. Motion made by Jerry Lapham, seconded by Cecil Heidelberger that the meeting adjourn.
