HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 14, 1975 l \ \.~/ i '\ , ) CITY 01 ANDOVER ) MINUTES OF THE PARKS/RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING HELD AUGUST 14, 1975 AT THE ANDOVER COMMUNITY CENTER The meeting was Phil Rzeszutek. Sylvia Britton. called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Acting Chairman, Attending, in addition to Mr. Rzeszutek, was Cecil Heidelberger came at 10:00 P.M. Guests were: Jim Steuart, Director of Community Serviees, and Red Oaks residents - Joe Royer, Tom Cherney, Karen O'Neil, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schultz, Kathy Royer, and Tim Swanson. OLD BUSINESS Footbridge oyer Coon Creek - The Park Board Members were presented with a Report,by Mary VanderLaan, about the footbridge. Discussion followed regarding who should be responsible for paying for the bridge. The Park Board feels the bridge would be needed but the financial end should be taken care of completely by the School District, or at least, not included in "Parks". , ) Red Oaks Park - The residents from Red Oaks presented an excellent long-range plan for their proposed park. They are now waiting for the City Engineer to look over the area and advise on the pond area; also, for the crew funded by the CETA program to begin mowing and cleaning up the park area. After the Engineer makes his report, the dredging, planting, seeding, etc., can be started. Hockey Lights - 2 bids for the hockey lights have been received _ Gopher Electric for $3,500 and Hedstrom Electric for $3,929. Mr. Rzeszutek was informed that if he could get the poles elsewhere, the bids would be considerably lower. Motion by Britton, seconded by Rzeszutek, to go ahead with the hockey light installation if Mr. Rzeszutek ean get the light poles. The eost would then be under the $3,OOObudgeted for this project. Motion carried unanimously. Sand Points - They will be installed within the next 2 weeks. Andover Summer Recreation Program - Mr. James Stewart, Direetor of Community Services, presented a report on the Andover Summer Reereation Program and a proposed 1976 Community School Budget. He will be at the next meeting, September 11, with further information. \ j Minutes - August 14, 1975 Page 2 NE'tv BUSINESS P & Z Ite:ns - The Board Members discussed the "Park Section" of Ordinance lOB, ~hich had been mailed to them by T. K. D. A., City Engineers. The Park Board approves by consensus. Park Tour- Still waiting for someone to mow and clean up all of the parks. Northwoods Park - Motion by Britton, seconded by Heidelberger, to put in grass seed and install 75 tons of crushed limestone at Northwoods Park. Motion carried unanimously. Quickstror.~ - grade and put in a berm. Athletic Association - Roger Anderson & Earl Goswick will take over the Hockey program this year. They would like to meet tdth the Park Board on llednesday, August 20. at 7:30 P.M. The Hock'i!y Program needs 2 sets of Goalie equipment. Andover ComQunity Club - The Community Club is donating their building on Andove~ Boulevard to the Bicentennial Comnlittee. Hewslette:: Article - The Park Board advised the Clerk to have an article from the Parks/Recreation L\.dvisory Board put in the nell Newsletter about the fallowing: 1) Anyone interested in coaching or participating in football, baseball, hockey, etc.. to contact Phil Rzes~utek - 755-4006. 2) Anyone interested in being a Park Board Member, contact one of the Park Members or the City Hall. 3) Red 03ks is planning a fantastic neighborhood park.
