Community Center Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes
Monday, April 12, 2010
6:30 pm
Conference Room B - Andover Community Center
Call to Order - 6:36 pm
Attendance: Mike Quigley, Erick Sutherland, Kate Morphew, LaChelle Williams, Penny Portner
Absent: Ted Butler, Prank Kellogg, and Mike Knight
Approval of Minutes - Minutes from Pebmary 8, 2010 were not approved, approval tabled to
the next advisory meeting due to lack of commission members present.
0 YMCA Update - Ms. LaChelle Williams indicated that the Andover YMCA has met their 1 st
qtr goals and have 61% 64% familv member retention (members who were active here 13
months ago and are still currently members). In January 13% of the new members were from
Andover and in Pebmary 9% and March 8%. They are currently working on their summer
programming and capacities are; Summer Program for Youth 68%, Preschool 38% and UpRoar
for teens at 70%. The YMCA will be sponsoring a Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 17
which all summer programs will again, be promoted. The YMCA will also be working with
several insurance companies and introduce a 16-week diabetes prevention class. Ms. Williams
also shared with the committee that one of their Andover fitness instructors was awarded one of
the top 5 in the YMCA. Puture goals will be focused on building a strong board, working on
budget and goals.
Commission Term Expiration U pdate - The new AHYHA representative will be shared
between Jason Hemp, President and Penny Portner, Vice President of AHYHA. Erick has made
Jim Dickinson aware of the multiple terms expiring in 2011 and he'll keep the commission up-
to-date as if some of the term expirations will need to be modified.
Budget 1st Otr - Erick explained that the facility is expecting some very large payments yet for
1 st qtr 20 I 0 rentals that are not reflected on the revenues page, thus giving the perception that the
center is behind last year's revenue income. Mike Quigley suggested that the finance dept
include in the report, the outstanding billable revenues so it is not misleading on future repOlis.
Erick will speak to city finance to see ifthat is something we can include.

2010 Fun Fest Craft & Gift Sale will be held here at the Andover Community Center on July
loth.. Cindy has volunteered to co-chair the event along with a local resident. Cindy is also
working with the fun fest committee to ensure additional activities are planned on community
center property to increase foot traffic within the building and craft fair which will be held in the
field house.
The lzth Annual Home Show went very well, more than 1200 adults visited the show floor
room which had 101 home improvement exhibitors represented. New this year, was the kids
workshop where kids and their parents could build a bird house together. We were honored to
have cub scouts from Pack 609 assist us with the workshop which made things run very
smoothly.
City Wide Garage Sale - A date has been set by council and city staff and unfortunately the
date they've chosen is not available here at the ACC field house. Our intent was to offer
residents who wanted to have a sale but not at their home to rent space/table in the ACC field
house. Weare hoping to become more involved with planning for 20 II if such the city chooses
to organize the event again.
Fall Indoor Soccer League - Dates have been set and information is available on our website.
0 Two age divisions will be offered on Saturday momings, October 9 - November 20.
S-vear Anniversary Event - Will be planned by both YMCA and ACC staff members.
Commission will be notified once date and events are set. Commission members will be
encouraged to attend and or assist with this event.
Field Trips & Zumba - We've recently hosted a few field trips and are working with the
YMCA to see if Zumba classes can be offered during the field house activities portion of field
trips. Zumba is an interactiveexercise program utilizing drum sticks.
YMCA Partnership in Strength Training
YMCA Fitness is looking at offering strength training sessions to groups who may be visiting or
utilizing the Andover Community Center Facilities, such as AHYHA and Mustangs. Fitness is
also working with Erick to see ifthe Andover HS Dance team will be able to use one of the
studios a couple days of week (wood floors).
Other Business
Cindy and LaChelle have meet and agreed that a single print piece brochure with information
about both the Andover YMCA and Andover Community Center would be a great idea.
LaChelle will be in contact with the YMCA Marketing Dept to see if they will assist in the
printing such publication.
