Community Center Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes
Monday, July 12,2010
6:30 pm
Conference Room B - Andover Community Center
Call to Order - 6:35 pm
Attendance: Ted Butler, Erick Sutherland, Mike Knight, Kate Morphew, Mike Quigley,
LaChelle Williams Absent: Jason Hemp
Frank Kellogg Arrived at 7 pm.
Approval of Minutes - May 10, 2010 Minutes approved as written.
YMCA Update - LaChelle announced that the YMCA will be changing their logo and name to
. the "Y". New mission points have also been adopted, they are: 1) social responsibility, 2) health,
and 3) youth development. LaChelle also provided an update on membership and provided a
handout to the commission on YMCA Membership Demographics.
LaChelle also recently attended an Andover City Council meeting providing them with an update
and to let them know that there is a definite need for a teen center to be located at the facility.
LaChelle encouraged council and commission members to tour the teen center located at the
Chain of Lakes YMCA in Lino Lakes. With limited space here at the facility, an addition would
need to be made to the building to make room for such center. LaChelle felt it was important for
the council to start thinking of how this partnership and center can become reality.
Staff Update.
The 5-year anniversary event is schedule for Thursday, August 12 from 4 pm-7 pm. City and
YMCA staff continue to meet and plan activities for the event. Commission members are
encouraged to attend.
Staff reviewed the July status report with the commission.
ACC Staff will provide an annual update to the city council at the September council workshop,
date TBD. Commission members are encouraged to attend this workshop.
0 Facilitv Fees for 2010/2011 - The commission reviewed the spreadsheet included in the packet
and discussed usage and rental fees. The Commission would like staffto research what other
Junior volleyball clubs currently pay as well as discuss fees with AHYHA before commission
votes on the new fees. The YMCA has also been notified that facility usage fees for field house
rental for summer 2011 will increase. Erick will follow-up with LaChelle and the commission.
Approving facility fees for 2010/2011 has been tabled until the August meeting.

Budget 2011 Discussion - Erick Sutherland updated commission that the parking lots are
scheduled to be seal-coated next summer which will add an additional $80,000 of expense to the
2011 budget. The commission questioned ifthis expense could be spread-out over two years to
help minimize the impact on the 2011 budget. Erick will follow-up with city finance dept.
Commission reviewed information and it is also noted by staff that a new "programming" line
item has been added under both field house and ice arena. This new "programming" category
will allow staff to track revenues from various programs/leagues rather than incorporating these
revenues just as open gym or open skate which has been done in the past. The budget approval
was tabled until the August meeting.
Other Business
Skate Park - The skate park equipment will not be placed in the community center parking lot
next summer as the lots are scheduled to be seal-coated. Ted Butler informed the commission
that the council is looking at laying asphalt in one of the new outdoor rinks (near public works)
so that the skate park equipment can be set out.
Thefts - Mr. Kellogg, informed the commission that he has heard of additional car break -in's on
the YMCA side of the lot. He would like the YMCA and ACC staff to implement a policy
which would identify and track all break-in's which occur on YMCA Community Center
Q property. He would also like staffto encourage those who experience these break-in's to contact
the sheriffs dept. immediately and file a repOli so that it is tracked and acknowledged by the
sheriffs office.
Concert - Andover EDA is sponsoring a bluegrass concert in the park by Andover Station
(Target). Event is scheduled for July 22nd , 7-9 pm.
Next Meeting - The next scheduled meeting will be held Monday, August 9, 2010 at 6:30 pm at
the Andover YMCA Community Center, Meeting Room B.
