HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 14, 2009 ~NDOVER~ ClJmmtln~ Cenkr Community Center Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes Monday, December 14,2009 6:30 pm Beef O'Brady's Call to Order - 6:30 pm Attendance: Ted Butler, Tony Howard, Erick Sutherland, Frank Kellogg, Mike Quigley, Mike Knight Absent: Kate Morphew Approval of Minutes - October 12, 2009 - approved as written YMCA Update - Mr. Greg Vos,s has resigned from the Andover YMCA and has taken a position with the American Red Cross. The commission wishes Mr. Voss the best ofluck on his new position. Mr. Kellogg suggested the commission send Mr. Voss a framed certificate of appreciation. Cindy will create and execute. Commission Term Expirations - Mike Knight (Council Rep), Tony Howard (AHYHA Rep) and Ted Butler (park Rep) terms will expire the end of2009. The City Council will be appointing the council and park representatives at their first council meeting in 2010. Erick will follow-up with AHYHA as to who will be representing the youth hockey assn. Mr. Frank Kellogg made the motion to keep Mike Knight and Ted Butler on the commission, motion approved. Mr. Frank Kellogg also made a motion to keep Tony Howard on the commission. Mr. Howard has recently stepped down as the AHYHA president, however he has expressed his interest in remaining on the commission. Motion approved. Staff Update P & L YTD Update was discussed. Erick will work with Lee Brezinka at City Hall finance on making sure the allocations are being made correctly as some of the data has not been allotted correctly. Estimated revenues for 2009 are Ice Arena $325,662 and the Field House $94,995. After School Activities - The YMCA has been doing a great job of coordinating the "teen center" in the meeting rooms after school each day. The Community Center did have some issue with youth fighting on the outside grounds and then moving indoors. Many ofth<i individuals involved are students that have been warned for their behavior in the past, therefore ACC staff did proceed and discipline 3 youth according to code of conduct policy. Proeress Report - Reviewed and discussed. Erick has spoken with the North Suburban Home Show Committee and they are on-board with the facility charging an additional administrative fee for Cindy's participation with registering exhibitors. Cindy has also increased marketing and will also begin to take the lead for this years show on the new kids workshop. The Coon Rapids Home Depot store will be bringing some sort of wood kits for kids to put together during the home show. Erick mentioned that the community center had an extremely busy weekend while hosting a youth hockey tournament, a hs hockey game and girls basketball tournament. The concession stand had an extremely good weekend. Erick also updated the commission as to the decision to change pop vending from Pepsi to Theisen vending - the community center will offer coke fountain pop choices while vending machines will contain both Coke and Pepsi - a three year contract has been signed. Coke has provided clocks, menu boards and dry erase boards to use at the facility. Concessions has also opened a corporate acct at Costco and is purchasing a large portion of candy items at big cost savmgs. Survey Responses - Were reviewed and discussed as follows: Not knowing facility schedules - Cindy will provide the commission with the areas that are currently being utilized. Could LT. obtain individual's email addresses and email them when new schedules become available? Include schedules to all YMCA members thru newsletter (think they moved to e - newsletter). YMCA members wanting their membership to include field house use: Exchange the use of YMCA staff in lieu of letting members in field house at no charge. More Senior Programs - Approach Andover Sr. Center, educate them on the walking program, offer Sr. Skates, etc. Ted Butler asked Cindy to email him the survey spreadsheets so he can anilize some of the survey data. Cindy has been in contact with Eric Hagen with the Anoka County Union and Mr. Hagen decided that since there wasn't a huge survey response on any particular topic 'to not do a story on the results at this time but rather than do a story at the 10 year anniversary - Cindy encouraged him to do a story at the 5 year event this summer. Other Business - Erick expressed his appreciation to the commission for supporting and encouraging the Ace staff throughout 2009. Next Meetine -The Commission agreed not to meet in January so the next scheduled meeting will be held Monday, February 8, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Andover YMCA Community Center, Meeting Room B.
