1685 CROSSTOWN BLVD. N.W.
ANOKA. MINNESOTA 55303
(612) 755,5100
June 1, 1978
The Regular Monthly Meeting of the Park/Recreation Commission was not called to order
due to only two members being present, Wes Mand and Gary Anderson.
The secretary was asked to send memos to the City Clerk, Pat Lindquist, in order to
buy trees from Bailey's Nursery and have black dirt and sod layed around the tennis
courts at City Hall; also a memo to the effect that the Park/Recreation Commission
recommends the lease of Hawk Ridge Park for two years. Warne Linton has been growing
alfalfa there and wants to continue and is willing to pay $125.00 per year.
Linda Johnson, representing Johnson's Field, asked what the Park/Recreation Commission
wanted, land or money, on her plat. Park land is not shown on the preliminary plat.
She was told a decision could not be made tonight since there was no meeting. Mrs.
Johnson preferred not to go back to the surveyor and have the plat redrawn showing
a park site due to the expense so she was told to have her surveyor suggest a spot
in the plat for a park and return at the July meeting.
A memo is also being sent to P & Z asking for clarification on the last sentence in
'\ Ord. #10, Sec. 9.07 - Lots created in any manner that are larger than five acres or
"~ 300 feet in width shall not be subject to paying a fee in lieu of public land dedication
but may be subject to dedication of land for public use.

Trees, sod and black dirt
The Park/Recreation Commission requests that Bob Muscovitz be allowed to go to
Newport, Minn. this coming Monday with a purchase order to buy approx. $200.00
worth of park grade trees. These trees are bare root approx. 10-12' high and
are priced at $5.90 or so. The reason for this late notice request is that Bailey's
Nursery will only have them in stock for the next week and it is our understanding
that Bob is going on vacation next Tuesday. Bailey's will not sell a tree with
bare roots unless the truck has a tarp, therefore, a tarp needs to be purchased.
It will be physically impossible for these trees to be purchased and planted in
one day so 5 gal. buckets or something similar should also be purchased.
In order to protect the tennis courts at City Hall from being damaged, black dirt
and sod should be layed around the court as quickly as possible to prevent erosion,
therefore, we request Bob to make arrangements to have this done, in order to
protect a $25,000 investment.

City Hall Tennis Courts
At the 6-6-78 Council meeting, they went out to look at the tennis courts. A result
of this was somebody asked TKDA to check into prices for adding more blacktop around
the edge of the tennis court, about anotherll inches or so, plus add a bar at the
bottom of the fence so tennis balls can't rollout.
Costs so far:
Income:
$ 900.00 - Burt to grade
9875.00 - Blacktop
6800.00 - Lights
4900.00 - Fence
500.00 - TKDA
$12,500 - Budgeted in 1977

Estimate from Crowley Fence - $900.00 to put bar in.
.I'Ll F{,~_!...:
Correction: Improvement budget 1977 was $15,500 of which $919.00 was actually spent
leaving 1977 balance of $14,581. $14,581 minus $12,500 is $2081.00, so
ideally there is $2081 plus $971 = $3052.00 left to spend on tennis court.
