SPECIAL PARK/RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING - JUNE 27, 1979
MINUTES
A Special Park/Recreation Commission Meeting was called to order by Chairman Mand at
6:30 p.m., June 27, 1979, at the Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Blvd. N.W. The
purpose of this meeting was to view the City parks not covered by the June 14, 1979 tour.
Commission Members Present:
Commission Members Absent:
Anderson, Longbella & Nichols
LeFebvre, Meyer & Rogers
Omitted from the June 14, 1979 minutes was Red Oaks East and West parks. These were
viewed that night. Red Oaks West could be leveled somewhat and a back stop installed.
Chairman Mand explained both parks are ponding areas so nothing major can be done. Red
Oaks East is a possible sliding site.
Lund's Evergreen Estates - For the most part, the park land has been cleared. The east
side is suitable for a ballfield; the west side, a picnic area.
County Parks - The two parcels the County wishes to donate to the City were viewed. They
are small and low. The Commission decided the City would be better off not to acquire any
more mosquito breeding grounds.
North Birch Creek - The proposed park area was pointed out to the rest of the Commission
from Crosstown by Chairman Mand. There was a no trespassing sign hung on a wire across
the entrance.
Forest Meadows - The cattails are growing nicely.
The leased park on 181st, Hawk Ridge, Langseth and the Cedar Crest park which was involved
in the litigation were viewed from the car.
A stop was made at Cedar Crest to look at the seedlings.
Another stop was Valley View Estates. The Commission looked at the erosion due to road
construction that Mr. Pritchett is complaining about. This erosion is not occurring on
park property.
The Commission then looked at Aztec park and Grow Oak View. There is a fence across the
Grow Oak View entrance possibly to try and keep out motorcycles and snowmobiles.
Throughout the entire tour, the new Commission members made comments regarding the swamps
designated as parks.
Meeting adjourned 9:30 p.m.
