Commission Members Present: Commission Members Absent: Also Present: Mand, Nichols and Prochniak Longbella, Rogers and Zillhardt Nancy Hagman, Summer/Community School S~~/COMMUNITY SCHOOL Nancy Hagman furnished the Commission with copies of the 1982 spring program, the recreation on wheels summer program, the community survey and the annual report. She stated the spring program is about the same as last year. In some cases fees have been raised. Next year they hope to have a computer class - Crooked Lake School now has an Apple computer. A teacher for this class has not been found. Wes Mand seeemed somewhat interested stating he has one of these computers in his home. The recreation on wheels summer program also is about the same as last year. She decided not to use the Constance Church or Gordy Nordeen's sites because they were worried about the liability, Nordeen's benches were broken and both were in the middle of nowhere. Further, she hesitated using Shady Knoll since the population is older but decided to wait and see OhOW it turns out as the reduced summer school classes (now called summer enrichment) might generate a higher enrollment in this area. She then asked if there were any more parks and several were mentioned, however, there was no significant population in these areas. Wes suggested she look at the vacant lots in Nordeen's Addition to see if any were dry enough. Also suggested was Green Acres, although it might be to close to Northwoods. Time was then spent discussing the community survey. The Commission suggested additions, deletions and word changes. The annual report was not discussed. Nancy then mentioned moving the extra set of soccer goals to the school. She was told to contact Jim Schrantz to make the necessary arrangements. Returning to the subject of the recreation on wheels program, Chairman LeFebvre mentioned there are many kids in Aud. Sub. #82 which does not have a park. He owns the empty lot next door, which he mows, and offered the use of his property. Nancy was pleased with his offer and said she would check this out. CITY HALL SITE Glen Rogers had dropped off copies of a proposed site plan. This was not considered as he used most of the area behind public works and the majority of the fields ran east and west. Wes and Merlyn had also drawn plans. The pros and cons of each were discussed. OWes mentioned now would not be a good time to get the tennis court lights repaired since the ground would be disturbed during the construction of the senior citizen's addition. asked that word be passed along to hold off on this repair. the He <'I ~'-- .I ( -') \.J Page #2 - Minutes April 1, 1982 0It was generally agreed that two hockey rinks should be constructed. Chairman LeFebvre stated he would contact the Rum River Hockey Assoc. to see if they would be willing to volunteer their labor. Wes stated he felt plans and specs should be prepared for bid purposes in order to get the job done. City staff is too small for anything to get accomplished due.to road work, fire calls, etc. This subject is continued to the next meeting. The Commission was advised that Henry Hammer was contacted regarding moving the school house to the County fairgrounds. He requested a letter condoning this move to present to the County Fair Board. The secretary was asked to send such a letter. ~OTION by LeFebvre, seconded by Prochniak, to adjourn. Meeting adjourned 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted: ~r<<J~~ ae Ellen Bakke, Secretary ~J o
