PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
June 6, 1985
The regularly seheduled meeting of the Andover Park and Recreation Commission
was held at 7:00 p.m. at Andover CHy Hall', '1685 Crosstown Blvd. N.W., Andover,
Minnesota.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Prochniak, McMullen, Kinkade, Szyplinski, LeFebvre, Sabel,
Strootman
MEMBERS ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: Frank Stone
TOUR OF PICNIC AREA AT ANDOVER COMMUNITY PARK COMPLEX
All members went and walked the picnic area at the Andover Complex and showed
Mr. Stone where to stake the walkway and playground equipment and shelters.
It was decided to place the playground equipment in order to allow for expansion
of the parking area if needed in the future. The walkway will connect the
East parking lot through the passive picnic area, shelter area and through to
the West parking lot. The walkway will be ag lime or some comparable substance
in approximately a 5 foot width.
DISCUSSION
Chairman Prochniak stated that the playground equipment was ordered through
Game Time and that Game Time would provide manpower on a weekend (8 hours
each day) to supervise when the equipment is being assembled. He stated that
the bid from Game Time came in $1500 below Mexico Forge and the Chairman recommended
that the $1500 be used for the walkway and fencing etc. The Park and Recreation
Commission was in favor of this recommendation. Chairman Prochniak also stated
that all equipment has been ordered and by mid July everything should be completed.
TENNIS COURT AT NORTHWOODS WEST
MOTION: by McMullen, seconded by Sabel to recommend to the City Engineer to get
a cost estimate for correctly repairing the tennis court at Northwoods West Park.
He would like this estimate by the Commission's next meeting - June 20, 1985.
Motion carried.
DISCUSSION
It was the general feeling of the Commission that the tennis court should be
repaired so that it can be used by the residents. Szyp1inski stated that he
felt that it may take the Engineer longer to get an estimate for the Commission.
The Commission just wanted to get a price as soon as possible.

\
I
MOTION: by Szyplinski, seconded by McMullen to accept bid from Satellite Industries,
Minneapolis, Mn. for $45.00 per unit for 4 weeks. Motion carried unanimously.
DISCUSSION
Mr. Stone stated that he received the bid from Satellite Industries later than the
previous companies, but that he felt it would be the best company to go with.
The Commission asked Mr. Stone to check with Satellite Industries and see if
they would go with $42.75 per month per unit for three units. Mr. Stone stated
he would check with them regarding that matter. Mr. Stone also recommended that
the Secretary should get some price quotes in January of each year from
different companies and then submit these quotes to the Commission. The Commission
agreed with this suggestion.
SURVEY
It was mentioned that the survey was not done but that the results should be
finished by June 13, 1985. It was decided to have a work session on June 13, 1985
to go over the results. If the results are not ready by that date, the Chairman
stated that he would contact the members and cancel the work session.
GENERAL DISCUSSION
Chairman Prochniak presented a map showing the breakdown of Kindergarten through
Grade 12 population in 20 Andover locations. He received some of his information
from School District #11. It was felt that this information would be helpful
to the Commission for future endeavors.
