Commissioners Present: Commissioners Absent: Also Present: Jacobson Vistad, Jovanovich, Perry Todd Haas, Assistant Engineer; Daryl Morey, Planner; Manley R. Olson The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the rezoning of the area known as the Andover Commercial Park and to further discuss what uses should be allowed in this area. Don Jacobson presented a draft document entitled Industrial Park (IP) District for purposes of discussion. This was used as a starting point for the consideration of permitted uses in the area. .. . -0 M. R. Olson expressed his opposition to the rezoning at all. He has owned the property for the past 12 years and when he first owned it it was General Business. Then the City went and rezoned the property to General Industrial. He feels the City should leave it alone. Mr. Olson felt if the zone was changed to other than industrial, it would be in conflict with the shopping center to the west on Bunker Lake Boulevard as well as the property just to the south of this site just inside the Coon Rapids border. He further felt that the district should allow uses which are job oriented such as machine shops, manufacturing, etc. He also expressed his dislike at the City being in competition with the general public in the development of property. He felt it was unfair and was very much opposed to it. The commission advised Mr. Olson that the districts would be easily distinguishable from the shopping center and would, in fact, compliment the district rather than be in direct competition with it. The discussion then centered around the permitted uses each/felt should be included and whether the entire 160 acres should be one zone or two zones with less intense zones along Verdin/Bunker and Hanson/Bunker and the areas in between carrying a heavier zone. It was decided tha~ the assistant engineer, planner and zoning :J Special P1annin( lmmssion 1-1eeting 4 August 1987 Page 'Iwo ( '. i..J \. , / administrator should compile a list of desired uses for presentation at the next regular planning commission meeting.
