Not currently a member, was previously but $109/month is too high! We have resorted to paying one-time costs for aquatics lesson because mo. memberships are too high. I don't feel belong there We have swam on a few of the community swim days, Our son has taken swimming lessons as a non member. Not as good as Lifetime, Wish you would fix the sauna, To old too old Just not interested in gym or ice activites. the swap meets and other non-athletic events in the field house do not make visiting very appealing. The YMCA in Coon Rapids is a much nicer faciltiy Fitness classes were not offered at later times. The majority were offered during the day and I did not feel comfortable being a beginner going to them. too many people and Iimitedspace for actual members Not friendlv or welcominn for Senior citizens. Want to meet new friends there. It's too bad that the community pool of Andover cannot be used by the residents of Andover wlout a membership fee applied, Our family would be willing to pay to use the pool area, Sometimes we go over to maple grove pool or the Tropics in Shoreview because we can use their pool for a dailyh fee, I know of other families in the area that do the same thing, The YMCA is very good for the people of Andover. Info about what is available hard to find at Fieldhouse- in the past. Instructors not as good, We belonged to the YMCA last summer- did not continue because hours that it worked for us to be there- too crowded, had to wait for equipment. Our son goes to open gym and open basketball. Would like more time available for this. Insurance would pay for membership if visited 8 times a month but feels like too much of a commitment. Some insurance cover or help cover membership ours does not. If we could afford the YMCA membership we would be members, We drive farther to lifeTime because our membership there is cheaper Not interested in Field House or Ice Arena Field house use is too expensive, open gym times too limited, no walking track. Should NEVER have used public funds to set up this private mobney making facirity, Anyone who participated in this decision should be banned from publiC office for life. During the "prime" family times all the equipment was full and the kids daycare is packed. I had complaints from my kids that other kids were being bullies and the workers were just standing around chatting. This forced me to use the YMCA late at night without my family and when there wasn't any fitness classes offered. Why spend over $100 a month on something that the whole family couldn't use, Just too busy Too busy My husband and I have been there twice for free, I found out by accident that Andover residents get 4 passes per year. Where is this advertised? way to limited for swim times, too many non members allowed in and rising costs of membership The reason we don't visit the ice arena is. because our children are too young. I'm sure that will change when they are older. We have a small child so he is only really abie to go to the Tot Time, the dependent clause is silly, If the Family membership is only for dependents (on the tax) form. then family members in the same household who file seperate have to have their own membership. We decided to go to LA Fitness which is farther from our house because the whole family can go there dependant or not. We are not interested or do not have the time. . . residents should be able to pay a nominal fee ($5 or less) to use the YMCA as other local communities do, This is the way it was sold to the residents of Andover before the YMCA was built - but somewhere the policy changed and you must have a YMCA membership, Membership Is too costly Economy Had a family membership but only 1 person used it. Eventually we dropped membership due to cost. Andover residents ought to have a substantially reduced rate to use the YMCA in our city, YMCA too costly - Our kids don't play hockey _ Community Center access should be build into monthly fee for the YMCA no current interest We belong to lifetime Fitness and are fully satisfied with this taxpaying facility, not a big fan of our publicly funded "project" It would be nice for a family membership to the YMCA was more resonably priced, What good is a community center if families can not afford it! Hours is the biggest factor, Waikers are only M-F until 9:30 a,m, why? Most people work M-F and my daughter doesn't even get on the bus until 8:30 a.m. Fieldhouse open times are over before my child gets home from school. Not much in the way of 10yrs or younger activities like basketball and volleyball...my child is only 48". Geared to the older kids and adults, The ENTIRE focus of the Center is on families with children, Additional coniments)coni~;rl0',*E~li~~iII&T' Enjoyed water aerobics this summer but now going to AZ. See you next year. I think an indoor ice sheet should have been built instead of 2 outdoor - without artificial ice they will get little use, Instead of just buying a brick to get funds people could be out selling bricks. I still think that it would be nice if there were an opportunity in the evenings for youth to use the field house w/o a fee (and weekends), Some activities need people play together like a game or play with a group, We want to know more people to talk to chat to communicate. Skate rental for school and group fieldtrips.can you contract with Super Rink or someone else that has this asset and under utilize it? I think you offer great opportunities, We love it I am 73 & active, but I do need to walk more. My wife has some dementia issues-as well as hearing loss & lack of compresion. She is ambulatory, We think the programs sponsored by Center is a great place for families when they are younger with kids, Would like to walk in it Looks good from the outside Would like to hear more about senior citizen activities. Never hear anything about Andover Senior Center. Seems unfriendly, compared to Coon Rapids and Blaine, Do they have any activities? Why with our tax dollars paying for the Community Center, are we being charged fees to use the Center? A family of 4, who want to open skate for fitnees 5 times a week, it would cost them $320 per month. We love going to the Y, mostly for swimming and Group X classes; Everyone is so friendly and instructors are fabulous! My boys LOVE kidstuff (especially John and Anna Leah), I feel that since the tax payers are paying for the Y, then we should be able to use it more without a monthly fee, We have that large swimming area and I rarely see it full. Charge a 3 or 5 dollar fee per head and let the family in these hard times have some place for their kids to enjoy themselves. Not just 4 times per year or once a month. In these hard times we do not need private clubs. YMCA membership is too expensive. There never seems to be "open swim" Friday night I love the indoor walking program. I feel very comfortable there, The gym is clean and the whole area around is clean! Welcoming. I love the Y. Is there any way the Y could accept "discounts" from other insurance companies. My medica is changing to preferred 1 in January, and the $20,OO/month really helps pay the membership, If you drop the open gym/skating rink fees, we would definitely use them more, We love the Community Center and YMCAI Everyones is so kind and helpful, It is clean and inviting, Fun for all ages and types can be had'at the Community Center- yeahl!1 Building was built with no facility(track) for walking other than in the gym with restricted hours. Whole facility is geared for younger not for seniors. Why do I find myself looking online this morning at Shoreview Community Center. We are looking for an indoor park or pool and now we must drive all the way to Shoreview because our Community Center only allows the public to swim 4 hours per month, How sad is that? We live in the 55304 zip code, go to Andover schools, participate in Andover athletics, but yet the YMCA does not feel we deserve the passes that would allow us access to the pool on days that work for us. I would even be willing to pay for daily passes, Been a member of the Y for 46 years-love it. As a community center, the pool should be separated from the YMCA. The pool cannot be used unless you have a YMCA membership-I don't think this is right. Would like pool evening hours 7-9 pm to have open swin with deep end of big pool open all week and not have arobics or lessons during open swim hours. It is a good idea to send us the informations and event in the community center by mail, Wish the pilates was not as costly. We belonged to the YMCA for several years and it doesn't seem right that use of the gym is not included in that membership. To be an Andover resident, paying Andover taxes. I don't think it's right to have to pay $2 for open gym, I, I ; I would be interested to know if the majority of our residents think its worth the cost to the taxpayers? My son would like to practice basketball at the Field house as it is only 2 miles from our house. but he finds that he has to go to Coon Rapids (8 miles) to use the basketball court at the Y there because the field house is too expensive or always in some other use, We supported the buiiding of the field house with our donation, yet I just wish a family membership wasn't so expensive. We can't afford it. Several families receive discounts from their insurance, however there are some that still don't and in this economy an extra $100 is too exspensiv8. Wish YMCA swimming lessons were less expensive for non-members. I wish the pool had been a community pool like the Shoreview Community Center where you can pay a daily fee - rather than requiring a monthly membership for the YMCA which is more than I wanlllike to swim and the only pool available for lap swimming without a monthly membership is the Roosevelt Middle School Pool. too concerned with school sports activities and not families that pay for membership Although, the per person fee may seem low it is not if you have severai people in your family and/or want to go frequently, It adds up quickly, You should be able to buy a set fee membership for the year, I don't like that the gymnasium is not included in the YMCA membership. Every YMCA, that I know of, includes the gym, People like to change things up and play volleyball/basketball, but don't want to pay extra when most are already paying over $1 DO/month, Aiso, there is not a good track, I know many people that did not get YMCA memberships just for that reason, I wish there was a weekend-version of tot-time, especially during the winter months, We've been to Tot-Time once but we typically don't go because we work full-lime/weekday hours. If there was an early evening Tot Time once a week we would definitely attend. Admission to the gym should be included in YMCA membership, I pay the same as somebody going to Emma B Howe, for exampie..,why do they get to use a gym and I don't? We were founding members of the YMCA, but in cutting costs from our budget we chose to quit our family membership because of the cost and the number of times we were using the facility each month, I think there is a lack of supelVision of the school age children that are roaming the center. Was a member of the Y. Loved it. Had to quit due to family finances and time constraints with young kids. May rejoin in the future. It would be nice to have the gym open (and FREE) for YMCA members during open gym times, Seems like it should be included in membership cost. Too many kids just hanging out when hockey families are trying to get to their activity, Hanging between the doors should NOT be allowed, also not hanging out at the tables with out actually using the facility..,purchase food then you can stay at a table, Fall Festival was very disappointing, Got there a few hours into the event and things were being closed, My kids didn't need the candy but would have liked playing the different games. I did not answer Q4 & 5. 4 because I do not know. 5 because my opinion is that it seems to be a nice place but something we currently do not have a need for. I tried the walking program a few years ago, Wanted to try it on a daily basis, but each time could not find anyone to give my dollar to, Too much effort just to want to walk. Currently exercise at home durtng inclement weather and walk the neighborhood during nice weather, I don't know how its handled now, but perhaps a lock box for someone to place their dollar in would be a suggestion. We appreciate that we can swim 4x per year for free, but wish we could afford the Y for lessons! Something should be sent to new residents in the city to inform them of activities/hours/fees, etc. of the community center. We had a YMCA membership but didn't use it so we canceied, We may join again, when our schedules free up, Outside of parents of kids who play hockey and parents who play volleyball it just doesn't seem like the Community Center is meeting the needs of the community, Such a small number of people use the gym facility (outside of volleyball), Access to open gym times should be built into the fee structure for the YMCA. We enjoy the Center and appreciate it being a part of Andoverl I do think that the resource for community groups to use the meeting rooms for free is a very valuable resource and very much appreciated!! This is not the type of thing I would like my taxes going to, It benefits a very small percentage of Andover residents based on what I see and yet I am forced to pay for it. My daughter took beginning skating iessons and I was really disappointed in the large number of kids to the number of teenage teachers (2), If I have a membership to the YMCA, I don't feel as though I should also have to pay for open gym, Would like to see YMCA fitness open until 11 PM Wish there were more open hockey available to youth at reduced cost I get frustrated when I want to play basketball at open gym, I am a 28 yr old woman and I feel like the men completly take over the whole thing, I don't mind a pick up game but not all the time. Also being that I am pregnant I can't participate in games nor is there an open hoop to shoot at. I think open gym should be regulated more. With more organized activities. For example days or days and hrs for just shooting and some fOf just games. I strongly feel that open gym time should be free to Andover residents, being as it was a publicly funded project and our tax dollars built the building I feel the membership rate is too expensive There should be no fee to use the Field house when someone has a YMCA membership. Please consider allowing YMCA members to use it as part of their membership, Seniors are art of this communi . but are i nored when it comes to the Center. ~~~t~iil' .:~I~~f;~~Zit~:~r~~~~:.~~~___~. ._~~____ _ ___~ =< '~~:.'--__~1~T_~:;=._~;f.~-__. Contest for little one, families, challenges to others families. Affordable karate lessons for youth, Yoga for seniors. It would be nice if general public was allowed to use the aquatics facility without being a member of the y, We would be willing to pay a small fee in order to do so. As a taxpayer and member of community that donated money to have this facility, we don't appreciate seeing emplyee's family members abusing their employment. For example washing cars (personal vehicles) by zambonie area, free skating kids/friends, scheduled and unscheduled ice times, free food handed out to their kids and friends. There should be longer hours for walking. Walking teack, yoga-at the field house, dancing classes~field house Community dances Open an indoor pooi for swimmingi Appeals to peopie who don't want to joing y, Host community ed programs, Host mother/daughter book club, Wine tasting more often. Baseball Skating lessons other than Saturdays-one evening a week? Skate rental We do not have open swim for non-YMCA citizens. No other pools in Andover are open swim either. Please allow this, and charge a per-use fee as appropriate. Wish there was a running track. Unite the Field house with the YMCA - make it open for use with YMCA membership, More youth programs for school age kids, Exercise classes without a YMCA membership that people can pay for ala carte - reduced cost for Andover residents. Book Club Free open volleyball, when adults that have the YMCA membership could drop their kids off at the YMCA daycare. It's hard for families to participate in things when they have little kids, Would love to see more community building activities for those with young children. Maybe classes for adults? Would LOVE a parent/child yoga. We missed the movie night and hope to attend in the future..,thought it was a great idea! Wish there was an indoor track Would love to see more Ice. 00 know this is expensive. Wouldn't mind an intensive fundraising campaign. Yes; more youth activities 10-12 age group with less expensive activity fees. Wish that Family Movie Night included the title of the movie to be shown as I would not approve of all movies for my small children, more community ed. sports programs for preschool and elementary age children (basketball, tennis. sports samplers, etc.), year round You may already have this, but would you be willing to have an 8 wk specialty class, no membership required. Yoga or simiiar, health related subjects? Dances for the kids, D You do not really provide any variety of activties or programs. You have these meeting rooms...how about some non~athletic events for kids in these rooms. Kids love to make things, learn things, dance, perform simple drama events, make puppets for shows, even music appreciation. While I am aware that these types of events are offered in the school district, having activities for residents would be a change. On an adult level there are many creative topics available. Or maybe Parent/Child classes. Not everyone can afford the $100+ monthly fee associated with the YMCA..,or are not interested in playing basketball and volleyball. I always wondered why this facility is called a "community center" when really it is an athletic center/skate rinkIYMCA.. If you don't fit in those 3 catagories...you really don't have a "community center" available to you or other interests. More organized activity for school aged youth
