HomeMy WebLinkAboutNovember 21, 1991 o o ::) o o ~~ ~~ CITY of ANDOVER REGULAR PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 21, 1991 The regularly scheduled Andover Park and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order by Chairman Kieffer at 7:30 P.M., Thursday, November 21, 1991 at the Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Boulevard N.W., Andover, MN. Commissioners Present: DeLarco, Auger, Woods, Anderson Commissioners Absent: Lindahl, Paulson Also Present: Todd Haas; Kevin Starr; others RESIDENT FORUM None APPROVAL OF MINUTES November 7, 1991 MOTION by DeLarco, seconded by Woods to make the following corrections: October 3, 1991 Minutes: The vote on approval of minutes should read: Yes - Anderson, Woods, Kieffer, DeLarco, Paulson; Present - Lindahl, Auger. October 17, 1991 Minutes: The vote on approval of minutes: Yes - Paulson, Auger, Anderson; Present Kieffer, Lindahl, DeLarco, Woods. October 30, 1991 Minutes: The vote on approval of minutes: Yes - Kieffer, Anderson, Auger; Present - Lindahl, DeLarco, Woods, Paulson. Motion carried unanimously. ,- '\ \_/ \ \.J ~J Park & Recreation Commission November 21, 1991 - Minutes Page 2 APPROVE 1991-1992 HOCKEY RINK SCHEDULE MOTION by Anderson, seconded by Woods to approve the hockey rink schedule for 1991-1992 as presented. Motion carried unanimously. Kevin Starr noted that the rinks will be flooded beginning December 2nd and the lights will be fixed prior to the rinks opening. CITY HALL PARK COMPLEX - CONSTRUCTION OF BALLFIELD 15 Todd Haas explained that the Andover Athletic Association has requested an additional ballfield at the City Hall Park Complex. Mr. Haas noted that he attempted to find space for the ballfield; however, if one were constructed, the parking lot would have to be removed and we can't afford to lose the parking. "\ , ) David O'Toole, Andover Athletic Association, stated that the Association is trying to get a long range plan going. Fundraisers will be held to help them do the things they want. The general concensus of the Park Commission was that an additional ballfield at the City Hall Park Complex is not feasible. HIDDEN CREEK NORTH PARK - PLAN LAYOUT Todd Haas requested that the Park Commission re-examine the possibility of an additional ballfield in Hidden Creek North Park. He noted that the Soccer Association used the park last year. Chairman Kieffer suggested that before anything is done, the residents in the neighborhood should be contacted. He also stated that we will have Fox and Oak Bluff ready for 1992. David O'Toole noted that within the next 2 to 3 years they are going to need more fields. Todd Haas suggested that we wait to see what the Athletic Association and the Soccer Association need before we do anything. '. .J Mr. O'Toole informed the Park Commission that someone is going to propose starting a Little League Program in Andover. With 400- 500 kids from Coon Rapids plus the 200 Andover now has, more fields will need to be constructed. . He is going to try to get Tom Yelle to come to the meeting also. Chairman Kieffer also noted that by 1993 Pleasant Oaks will be improved. (Commissioner Auger left at this time - 7:55 P.J.) 1992 PARK BUDGET UPDATE Chairman Kieffer stated that Commission had done in 1991. to have a summary of what is Park Dedication Fund. he was looking for what the Park For the next meeting he would like left in the Capital Budget and the CHAIRMAN'S REPORT It was noted that another letter has been received from a resident complaining about strootman Park. It was suggested that the letter be forwarded to staff so that someone could respond. Tom Anderson asked if we are expecting any dedication money yet this year. Mr. Haas said nothing will be coming in. MOTION by Woods, seconded by DeLarco to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 P.M.
