Goal Line Marketing Information Steve Biljan with Goal Line Marketing handed out information on how he could assist the Andover Community Center in reaching advertising goals. After much discussion, the commission requested that Steve pull together a formal presentation, identifying areas within the facility he feels are appropriate for advertising (i.e. West wall in Ice arena) and email to commission as soon as possible since October is when Steve begins making requests to advertisers. A copy of the proposed legal contract between Goal Line and ACC has been submitted and reviewed by the City Administrator and City Attorney. Steve, Goal Line Marketing left at 8:15 pm Jamie Durand asked if AHYHA were to get advertisers to purchase space at.ACC if AHYHA could receive a portion of the commission to include in their "fund raising efforts". The commission is open to any ideas that AHYHA has, and would need to be looked at on an individual basis. Since Goal Line is a fairly new company, Andrea wondered if Erick has had any discussions with any of their current customers. Erick indicated that he has spoken to the Burnsville Ice Arena and feedback has been very positive. Andover YMCNCommunity Center Advisory Committee Minutes July 11, 2006 Page 2 o Todd questioned the legal contract and if it speaks to the fact about renewing current advertisers and felt that current contracts should remain ACC customers and that Goal Line would not receive a commission off those individuals. 2007 Budget The commission reviewed the budget for 2007 and approved with the following changes: Increase Ice Rental to $290,000 and Skate Sharpening to $2,000. Frank requested that Erick provide him with the price "per therm" for natural gas the ACC paid during 2005. Pro Shop Proposal Currently, when a customer needs their skates sharpened they bring them to the concession stand to pay and concessions staff pages an attendant to pick up skates and sharpening takes place in the back storage room located on the far North end of the Ice Arena. The current process is very time consuming and often customers become agitated that the process takes so long. o ACC staff would like to propose moving the skate sharpening machine along with the "pro shop" merchandise currently in the concession stand to the cubby (approx size 10 x 8) located off the concession lobby area. By moving the sharpening to this area it would: 1) Reduce the amount of time it takes to sharpen skates 2) increase vending profits by making the machines more visible 3) Increase amount of "pro" merchandise (laces, tape, sticks, etc) offered. Quotes have been received for the cost of a gated overhead door to secure the area. Frank suggested that ACC look at partnering with an existing sports shop to provide ACC with discounted pricing on merchandise. Frank would like to approach the owners of Dave's Sports shop to see what they thought of the idea. Erick will speak with City Administrator to check to see if RFP's would need to be sent out and if such a relationship could be formed. Staff Update Concert in the Park is scheduled to perform on the lawn at the Andover Community Center, Wednesday, July 19th from 6 - 9:30 pm. Concert was organized by Wendy Albee, City of Andover Park and Rec Commission member in conjunction with ACC staff. o New Field House Rentals: Contract signed with Dancin' Feet Dance Studio, a local studio needing space until their new building site is ready to occupy. Freedom Christian Church has reserved space to hold a 4-day long conference during the first week in August and a date in September featuring a "nationally known" speaker. o o o Andover YMCA/Community Center Advisory Committee Minutes July 11, 2006 Page 3 New Ice Arena Rentals: National Girls HS Development tryout camp will be held at the ACC 4 days in March 2007. Girls throughout MN will attend. The camp was formerly held in St. Cloud. Fun Fest Andover Family Fun Fest event was well attended and staffing went very well. Many individuals visited the Andover Community Center for the first time. An ice cream/water stand was displayed in the hallway and giveaways included visors, flying discs, and magnets. ACC would like to see future Fun Fest activities to include additional outdoor booths set-up in the ACC lawn to draw more people into the building. The Craft Fair, held in the Field House, had 25 vending participants. Thoughts of hosting tournaments in the field house and ice arena are being considered for next year, perhaps having Crafters set up in hallways or lobby area or back to their previous location at Public Works. The parking lot faired pretty well from the Carnival rides & booths. Meeting Adjourned at 10:02 p.m. Next meeting scheduled for Monday, September 11,2006 at 7:00 p.m. in Conference Room A at Andover City Hall.
