HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-01-21 SP ANDOVER CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING – JANUARY 21, 2026 MINUTES The Special Meeting of the Andover City Council was called to order by Mayor Barthel, January 21, 2026, 6:00 p.m., at the Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Boulevard NW, Andover, Minnesota. Councilmembers present: Rick Engelhardt and Jonathan Shafto Councilmember absent: Karen Godfrey and Scott Schue Also present: Human Resources Manager, Dana Makinen INTERVIEW THE CANDIDATES Gadisa Berkessa – Planning & Zoning Commission Mayor Barthel welcomed the candidate and asked what interested them in applying to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Gadisa Berkessa introduced himself and answered questions of the Council related to his interest in serving on the Commission. Johnathan Weinhold (incumbent) – Planning & Zoning Commission Mayor Barthel welcomed the candidate and asked why they were inspired to reapply for the Planning and Zoning Commission. Johnathan Weinhold provided input on his experience serving on the Commission and answered additional questions of the Council related to his interest in continuing to serve. Michael Schmitz – Planning & Zoning Commission Mayor Barthel welcomed the candidate and asked what interested them in applying to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Michael Schmitz introduced himself and answered questions of the Council related to his interest in serving on the Commission. The Council took a brief recess at 6:49 p.m. and reconvened at 6:59 p.m. Andover City Council Special Meeting Minutes – January 21, 2026 Page 4 Margaret Miller (incumbent) – Nature Preserve Commission Mayor Barthel welcomed the candidate and asked why they were inspired to reapply for the Nature Preserve Commission. Margaret Miller provided input on her experience serving on the Commission and answered additional questions of the Council related to her interest in continuing to serve. Ryan Winge (incumbent) – Planning & Zoning Commission Mayor Barthel welcomed the candidate and asked why they were inspired to reapply for the Planning and Zoning Commission. Ryan Winge provided input on his experience serving on the Commission and answered additional questions of the Council related to his interest in continuing to serve.
