Councilmembers present: BOnlÚe Dehn, Mike Knight, Ken Orttel, John Kunza Councilmembers absent: None Also present: City Engineer, Scott Erickson INTERVIEW PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION APPLICANTS The following applicants were scheduled to be interviewed for the Park and Recreation Commission: Sharon Waters Al Grabowski Mark Lonsky Nancy Giancola Ms. Waters, Mr. Lonsky and Ms. Giancola did not appear for their interviews. The Council interviewed Mr. Grabowski, alternately asking questions. Al Grabowski - felt the trail system is the biggest uncompleted item in the park system; however, many of the trails will be connected by the projects being done this summer. Is no longer affiliated with the Andover Athletic Association, as his term expired in December and he elected not to run. Will still serve as a coach and was hired by the Association for one year to run the softball program, which consists of scheduling, coordinating fields and games with other cities, completing the paperwork, etc. Has done the scheduling for the City of Andover and Anoka softball programs for the last six years. Staff gives him the schedule and he works it out with the Baseball Association. Feels the City has a sufficient number of baseball, softball and soccer fields to meet the needs of the youth associations. Thinks the Park Board will be installing more tot lots in the neighborhoods rather than constructing the larger neighborhood parks. Centralized parks are easier to maintain partly because ofthe availability of irrigation, but he didn't see a need for another Sunshine Park in the near future. Didn't think there is anything that would prevent him from making a fair recommendation as a member of the Park Board. Does not think there is a conflict of interest as an employee of the Andover Athletic Association, which will only be for one year. The Anoka Association has also approached him to run their program because they are not getting the volunteers to help. The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. .~. .
