HomeMy WebLinkAboutECC March 21, 1995 ," CITY of ANDOVER EXECUTIVE MEETING OF THE ANDOVER CITY COUNCIL MARCH 21, 1995 - MINUTES An executive meeting of the Andover City Council was called to order by Mayor Jack MCKelvey on March 21, 1995, 6:39 p.m., at the Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Boulevard NW, Andover, Minnesota. . Present: Councilmembers Dehn, Jacobson, Knight Absent: Councilmember Kunza Also Present: Public Works Director, Frank Stone City Administrator, Richard Fursman Union Contract Consideration Mr. Fursman indicated that the Union had voted the most recent contract revision down. The union was requesting that the Council reconsider the option of a $00.50 per hour shift differential for the night workers. Mr. Fursman indicated that the impact on the budget would be around $1,000.00. The Union was also requesting that the Council consider raising the hourly wages of Rick Vickstrom and Chris Olson from $12.36/hr. and $12.12/hr. to $13.00 and $12.36 respectively. Councilmember Jacobson questioned why the public works employees were feeling [pushed down] by the Council. Mr. Fursma!' indicated that the public works staff took exeption to comments made by the Mayor about wages and comments made by Dehn about the 10ngevity of workers. Councilmembers Dehn and Knight indic~ted that there was no offense meant and that comments were takea out of context. Mr. Knight questioned the cost of raising the wages of the two individuals. Mr. Fursman indicated it would run again, about $1,000. Mr. Stone provided clarification on the night differential pay; he indicated that it would apply only to those who were on the night shift, and would not apply to someone called in at night to snow plow. MOTION by Knight, Second by Jacobson, to implement a $00.50 per hour shift differential for those assigned to the night shift, and to increase the wage of Rick vickstrom from $12.36 to $13. OO/hr. and that of Chris Olson from $12.12 to $12.36 per hour. Motion was carried on a 4-Yes, I-Absent vote. Mr. Fursman responded to questions by indicating that the process for the 1996 and 1997 contracts would start in the spring, before the budget process. MOTION by Jacobson, Second by Dehn, to Adjourn the executive meeting of the City Council. Motion carried on a 4-Yes, I-Absent vote.
