HomeMy WebLinkAboutSP March 30, 1976 1 CITY of ANDOVER SPECIAL CITY COUNQL MEETING - MARCH 30, 1976 MINUTES A Special City Council Meeting of the Andover City Council was called to order by Mayor Richard J. Schneider, March 30, 1976, 7:30 P.M. at the Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Boulevard N. W., Anoka, Minnesota. for the purpose of interviewing applicants for the position of Building Inspector/Assessor/Tree Inspector, and covering miscellaneous related items. Councilpersons present: Holasek, Rither, VanderLaan, Windschitl Council persons absent : None Also present: City Building Official, James Thurston; City Clerk, Patricia K. Lindquist. Agenda Approval MOTION by VanderLaan, seconded by Rither, to approve the agenda with the deletion of Item No.4 (Selection of Building Inspector/Set Starting Date), noting that the handling of this item would not be possible inasmuch as one applicant could not be present for this interview until April 5. Motion carried unanimously. Interviews The following lpersons were scheduled for interviews beginning at 7 :30 P. M., allowing one half hour per interview: , I 7 :30 - Art Jaworski 8:00 _ Allan Zepper 8:30 - Charles Pl:>we 9:00 - Dennis Rambow All persons appeared at scheduled times, before which they h".d been given a one-hour written examination. The following questions were asked of all the applicants: I 1. Why do ,you want the job of Building Inspector/Assessor? 2. What did you think of the written examination? I 3. What salary will you require? 4. If selected, when would you be able to start work? 5. Tell us ~bout your schooling or experience related to Building Inspection. 6. If you were to come acro.ôs a situation where a contractor violated Code requireinents and it meant a monetary loss for him to correct-and he objecte1 vehemently-what action would you take? 7. If you h d to go into an occupied residence to assess the property and were r1used admittance to the home, what would you do? 8. Would y u be willing to attend classes to further your knowledge of Buildin Inspection and/or Assessing? 9. Are you now, or do you intend to be involved in any business or extra activities that would conflict with your job with the City? -- I Special Council Meeting - 3/30/76 Minutes - Page 2 10. Are you willing to use your own vehicle for the job with compensation 15<; per mile? ll. Would you be available to work additional hours when neces sary and attend City meetings when so directed? Other questions relative to individual work and municipal experience were asked of the applicants. Personnel Consultant MOTION by Windschitl, seconded by Holasek, to interview the following firms, allowing one half hour per interview: l.League of Minnesota Municipalities 3. Motion carried. , I The interview date was changed from April 12, 1975 to April 15. 1975. beginning at 7:30 P. M. I , Recording Secretary MOTION bJ Windschitl, seconded by Holasek, to agree with the Clerk's I recommendations and engage Mrs. Annabel Lahn as recording secretary at a salary bf $32.50 per meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Planning aJd Zoning Chairman Compensation/Council Meetings MOTION bJ Windschitl, seconded by Holasek, that the Flanning and Zoning , Commission Chairman shall receive compensation of $10. 00 per meeting for his attehdance at City Council Meetings; and that Mr. Orttel be , informed of this. Motion carried unanimously. Adjournmelt MOTION bt Windschitl, seconded by Holasek. to adjourn. Motion defeated unanimously. (One item not covered.) MOTION b~ Rither, seconded by VanderLaan, to set April 5, 1976, 7:30 P.M. as the time to interview Mr. Nelson for the position of Building Inspector; and that the SpJcial Council Meeting regarding the Comprehensive Development Plan begin at 8:ÓO P. M. It was noted that if time permits, the selection of the Building Inspector will be made following that meeting at 8:00. Motion carried unanimously.
