My mission remains the same"Andover is a rapidly expanding community and the need to protect and preserve the remaining natural resources, such as tress, prairies and other open spaces,is becoming increasingly important. As land is developed, areas are clear cut and prairies destroyed.Such growth, negatively impacts wildlife and pollinators that once depended on these areas.Additionally,Andover residents appreciate being outdoors and traversing natural areas, watching wildlife in the process;thus, they too are impacted as they have less access to viewing animals as they graze. The reality that residents move to this community with the expectation of living in an area that is a smaller town, closer to a big city feel comprised of natural areas for wildlife mustn't be ignored. Residents are concerned about the issues I have raised, and I wish to speak on their behalf. Looking forward, many steps can be taken to create a balance between preserving areas residents treasure, while promoting development." -Jonathan Gwinn Describe your education/experience,which qualifies you to serve on this commission: I have a deepened interest in tree preservation and prairie restoration. For my college composition course in college,I researched and wrote a paper, which focused on ways to help restore endangered prairies in Minnesota and beyond.A key finding was that monarch butterflies have declined by 90%in 20 years, due to the loss of native prairies and continued urban expansion.Additionally,I have reviewed tree preservation plans for other cities in the Metro area,as well as in communities across the nation. I have learned ways to focus on the preservation of open spaces and how to restore them to their once natural state. Furthermore, I have completed a course by the University of Minnesota titled "Site Assessment and Setting Restoration Goal" which further set my passion in tree preservation and preserve expansion. Lastly,my work as a park ranger the past two summers was an incredible experience to learn more about the importance of our parks not only. for wildlife, but for our residents. G:\Everyone\FORMS\ADVISAPP.docx Describe your professional, civic or community activities, which may be relevant to this commission: My goal is to collaboratively serve others by preserving, protecting and restoring open spaces, trees and prairies, while promoting development in the community. I am extremely passionate about such Issues, because once these spaces are gone... they are gone forever, I have been an arbor day foundation member, handed out trees at Andover's annual tree giveaway, talked with other cities about their tree ordinances and toured these communities to see how we can improve our city for the betterment of all who live in itl Dated: 11/8/24 Signature GAEveryone\FORMSIADVISAPP.docx Jonathan J.
