January 19. 1984
MINUTES
The meeting of the Andover Park Commission was called to order by
Chairman Nichols at 7:40 p.m.. Thursday. January 19. 1984 at the
Andover City Hall. 1685 Crosstown Blvd. N.W.

Chairman Nichols announced to the Commission members that there would be
a meeting regarding the Bubbler System at Crooked Lake School on January
30th at 7:30 p.m. He asked the Commission to attend if possible.
INTRODUCTION TO MELANIE DELUCA. COMMUNITY SCHOOL DIRECTOR.
Ms. DeLuca addressed the Commission with information about her background before
joining the staff at Crooked Lake School. She stated that she definitely would
like to work very closely with the Commission on the summer program. She distributed
questionnnaires to the Commission and asked that they fill them out before the
end of the meeting so she could use those ideas for the summer program.
Chairman Nichols asked that Ms. DeLuca to bring extra copies of the summer
brochure to one of the meetings and to leave some at City Hall. Ms. DeLuca
stated that the enrollment for 1983 summer program was down in Andover.
Chairman Nichols asked how the playground on wheels did last summer. She
stated that Subdivision 82 she knew for sure had a "zero" response. Chairman
Nichols asked how the residents were contacted. Ms. DeLuca stated that the
information went out as soon as possible but that it is confusing because
of the different brochures that get mailed from different areas within the
District. Merlyn Prochniak asked Ms. DeLuca if she could b~ing the statistics
from the last summer program to the next Commission meeting. Ms. DeLuca stated
that she would have those figures for the next meeting. Chairman Nichols stated
that we would make a list of all the parks in Andover along with a map for
Ms. DeLuca. Bill LeFebvre stated that he would take Ms. DeLuca on a tour
of the parks in the area also.
In summary Ms. Deluca stated that she felt the summer program needed more
summer oriented activities such as nature art and camping skills. She would
see about getting bus transportation for a fee for children of working parents.
She also stated that she would try to get information out to residents through~ut
the area not only by mailing but also by flyer sent home with school age children.
She will attend as many meetings of the Park Commission as possbile and hopes to
keep the communications between the Park Commission and the Community School
open. She stated that she works every day and can be reached most afternoons
and evenings. She will be working full time during the summer programs.
SODERVILLE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
Chairman Nichols mude a motion that the Soderville Athletic Association be
allowed the use of Pines Hills field and that he would have to attend another
Park Commission meeting if he wanted any other fields. The motion was seconded
by Merlyn Prochniak.
RESURFACING OF NORTHWOODS ADDITION TENNIS COURTS
There was discussion in regards to the letter from Judy Thorson at 13818 Northwood
Drive N.W.. Andover. Mn. which requested resurfacing of the tennis courts. The
Commission decided to present this to the City Engineer and to see what costs
would be incurred. It was also suggested to send a letter to Judy Thorson
explaining what would be done in regards to this matter.
MOTION by Nichols. seconded by Carlson to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
