Commission Members Present: LeFebvre, Prochniak, Carlson Commission Members Absent: Nichols, Mand, Longbella Also Present: Melanie DeLuca, Harvey Kadlec, Richard Bednerek, James Schrantz COMMUNITY SCHOOL DIRECTOR, 1982-83 ANfWAL REPORT Ms. DeLuca discussed the areas of concern for the summer Community School Program. The morning playground enrollment for Famil~ of Christ and Sub 82 was very poor. She stated that the weather and the July storm were probably the greatest contributing factors, but had wondered if the Commission members had any other ideas as to reasons why. LeFebvre stated that Sub. 82 was hard to find and no sign was posted to mark the area. Ms. DeLuca asked if there was a place that would work better otherwise she wanted to use North Glen as a substitute. She was referring to the are by the pumphouse. The Commission did not feel that that was 'a good site. LeFebvre suggested asking Rosella Sonsteby if the empty lots at 145th and Underclift could be used as a park site for morning playground. Ms. DeLuca stpted that a sign would be posted and a map included in the flyer ~nt out to the homes. She stated that teen softball was dropped because there was not enough enrollment. Prochniak questioned open teams for teens and Ms. DeLuca stated that it would be possible but nothing was set up yet. Prochniak asked if bus transportation was possible and Ms. DeLuca stated that that would have to be done on our own. She said it may be too expensive but it is a possiblity - it would require some research and pre-registration for that'would be a must. The overall clinic program for summer programs has been expanded. Ms. DeLuca stated that the brochures for the spring program will go out in April. She will send some brochures to City Hall to be distributed to interested residents ~f Andover. LeFebvre asked Ms. DeLuca if she would like to attend the park tour when the two new members of the Commission have their tour. Ms. DeLuca said that would be fine as long as notice was given ahead of time. KADLEC SKETCH PLANS Harvey Kadlec stated that the area dedicated for park would be too low for sewer service but would be drainable area and that the area was also very heavily wooded, therefore, it would be a nice area for a nature park. Prochniak stated that the Commission would walk the area. - t..o: MOTION by LeFebvre to table until the next meeting so the Commission can take a look at the area and see the preliminary plat to make comments. Carlson seconded the motion. METRO SOCCER Richard Bednerek asked the CommissiDn what would be available at the City Hall site for Metro Soccer to use for practice and games from May through October. He stated that they have their own nets and orange cones. Mr. Schrantz stated that we could chalk the fields. Mr. Bednerek said that they would like to use the old field for practice and the new field for games. Bednerek stated they would play 2 games a night and none of the games would be played under lights. Prochniak stated that a joint effort would be necessary between the Association and the Park Commission to work on the new field.
