WWW.CI.ANDOVER.MN.US SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING Joint Meeting with City of Anoka Council Andover Courtyards Wednesday, February 20, 20Q1..- 5:30 p.m. The joint meeting was called to order by Mayor Mike Gamache at 6:00 p.m. at the Andover Courtyards. The City of Andover hosted this special meeting that was designed to encourage dialogue between the two communities on a wide range of issues. Members Present: Mayor Gamache, Councilmembers Jacobson, Orttel, Trude. Members Absent: Councilmember Knight Others Present: Anoka Mayor Skogquist and Council, City Manager Tim Cruikshank, Community Development Director Robert Kirchner, City Administrator John Erar The meeting began with Anoka CD Director Kirchner making a presentation to the group regarding economic development activities occurring in the City of Anoka. Numerous issues and questions were raised by attendees regarding the level of economic activity in Anoka, vacancy rates in Anoka's Industrial Park, new residential development proposals and other noteworthy community development activities. Following Anoka's presentation, Administrator Erar made a presentation of community development activities occurring in Andover that included a handout on development projects occurring within Andover. Information was provided on both commercial and residential activities, with various high profile projects identified and detailed. Numerous issues and questions were raised regarding development projects during the presentation and discussed by the group. Following this presentation, Council members discussed legislative issues affecting their respective cities, including current state budget developments along with an at length discussion of school district funding cuts and transportation issues. The group expressed serious concerns regarding the district's transportation plan to require students living within 2 miles to either walk, be transported by a parent or to pay a district service fee for bus transportation. It was determined by the group that City Manager Cruikshank and Administrator Erar should work together on various items with the goal of advancing City concerns to the school board. Follow-up action by the two City officials was requested and will be handled within the next two weeks. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
