I have lived in Andover, with my familfor over five years now. We have two young children
(ages 7 and 4) and have frequented the narks and recreational facilities in the area numerous
times As our kids grow and get into more activities I am sure we will be gpendin more time in
and around those parks and recreational facilities so I have a vested interest in helning to
maintain and improve these resources. As I have wanted to get more involved in the community,
this commission seemed like a good starting poim.
Describe your education/experience, which qualifies you to serve on this commission: For my
education. I have two degrees a BA in History and an MA in International Business. My time in
higher education gave me experience studying working and living with people from all socio-
economic and cultural backgrounds which I feel would be relevant when dealing with citizens of
Andover. I was raised in Maryland, in the suburbs of Washington DC in a growin active
ctive
community, which is very similar to Andover. I grew lip playing sports in local facilities
Mending time with friends on playgrounds and watching my parents play softball in a local
league I hope my kids will have similar experiences in the parks and recreational facilities that
Andover has to offer.
Describe your professional, civic or community activities, which may be relevant to this
commission:
I have most recently been emploved at the University of 1VTwnesota and BAE Systems in contract
management functions. I have good attention to detail a knack for hitting the ground running,

Please state your reasons for requesting to be on the advisory commission checked above:
I would h1re to serve on the Planning & Zoning Commission because it is a time in my life where I have the
opportunity to give back to the community that has given me so much. I am extremely interested in local
government and this Committee is a great place to contribute and gain experience.
1 have always believed in community involvement, but my situation (work/family) never allowed for it, until now. It
is extremely important to have a variety of opinions on any Committee. Unless a diverse group ofpeople with a
variety of views get involved, the potential for an echo -chamber exists.
Describe your education/experience, which qualifies you to serve on this commission:
Planning has always been a part ofmy adult life. After graduating Iowa State University with a Sports
Administration degree, I knew I wanted to be focused on improving people's lives. Most recently I have been a
Director at the National Sports Center in Blaine (15 yrs). I sincerely believe the diversity ofprojects and programs I
have been involved with at the NSC would be useful on this Commission
The highlight of this tenure may be when I was appointed to a Directors position with our Campus Master Plan. I
was heavily involved in the formation of what our facility may look like in the next 30 years. Working with the City
of Blaine, private developers, the public, and our consulting firm was an experience i will never forget and quite
informative.
Describe your professional, civic or community activities, which may be relevant to this commission:
I believe my 30+ years managing facilities and my 15 years at the NSC have provided me with a wealth of
experience that would be valuable on ibis commission. My family and I love Andover and want to see it continue to
thrive.
Finally, literally allofmy experience managing facilities over the past 30 years has been in the areas of problem
solving, communicating effectively, decision making, and continuous learning. These skills would be invaluable on
a Commission like this.
Thank you for your consideration!

Please state your reasons for requesting to be on the advisory commission checked above:
At this stage in my life I am eager to give back to the community that has given my family and I
so much over the past 15 years. Andover has such a wealth of services to offer that I want to be a
part of continuing this great benefit. I want to get off the bench and get in the game. My family
and 1 have visited many of the 60+ parks and walked/biked at least half of the 30 miles of trails.
It is a major reason we moved here instead of Blaine.
Describe your educationlexperience, which qualifies you to serve on this commission:
Recreation has always been part of my life. After graduating Iowa State University with a Sports
Administration degree, I knew I wanted to be involved with all things related to recreation. Most
recently I have been a Director at the National Sports Center in Blaine (15 yrs). I sincerely
believe the diversity of projects and programs I have been involved with at the NSC would be
useful on this Commission.
I am also a member of the PGA of America which requires continuous education to keep me
informed of the latest trends and current state of the leisure industry.
Finally, literally all of my experience managing sports facilities over the past 30 years has been
in the areas of problem solving, communicating effectively, decision making, and continuous
learning.
Describe your professional, civic or community activities, which may be relevant to this
commission:
I believe my 30+ years as a golf professional in the leisure industry and father of 3 active
children would be extremely useful to this commission. We use Andover parks on a regular basis
and have had a membership at the YMCA for years. In addition we attend many of the
community functions throughout the year.

Guiding Business Philosophy
I have a duty to several different entities in every organization I serve. The first is a duty to the customer,
second is to the staff (all staff), and the third is to the business. I take these obligations seriously and they
are all equal in importance. If the customer is not consistently pleased they are not likely to return. If your
staff do not feel fulfilled, they are not likely to give their best effort or to remain long term. Finally, if I am
not focused on or do not understand what the company truly needs from my efforts and those of my
business unit, we will drift aimlessly into the future.
