Reason and Rationale. I've been working as a licensed addiction counselor and therapist for nearly 20 years and 1 believe that a great deal of my client's problems come from the lack of community involvement in their lives. While this position may not exactly aid in reducing the amount of chemical and mental health issues and, along with those, the possible criminal activities that are often associated with such, I believe that I could possible lend some of my experience to the committee in bettering what we, as Andover citizens and neighbors, can offer others. My key interest is the betterment of the community as a stronger community builds a stronger future for all of us. Education and experience. Education wise, I have six college degrees, the fields I've studies are History, Philosophy, Ecology, Astronomy, English, Psychology and Sociology. I have my Masters in Social Work from Augsburg and plan on going for my Psyl] in depth psychology (that's a long story). Experience. I don't have any experience in politics. Frankly, I don't really want any. I'm a community member mid I'd rather not see more of my neighbors and community members go through so much of what my clients have gone through. I don't have any particular political axe to grind and my intentions are to build a conununity that my children can grow and thrive within. I do more listening than talking, attempting to help others understand and clarify their thoughts and behaviors. Stated above, I don't have any experience in the political arena. I'm applying for the position for my community, where I live and raise my children in. Professional, Civic, and Community Activities. I volunteered for a year of AmeriCorps in Indiana. We conducted enviromnental education and working with children in their neighborhoods to raise awareness on recycling mid conservation topics. Warren Fxxtze, MSW, LICSIN, LADC, CGC OBJECTiV EMUMMARY To my future employer, i will bring my experience, dedication, willingness to learn and grow, and education to work with my clients towards the goals ofrecovery from their mental health issues and addiction issues and also to help them forge morea. balanced, chemical -free, and healthy way of thinking and living. First, I think that (second perhaps only to having quality schools) parks and recreational opportunities are a key driver when prospective residents evaluate the desirability of living in a community. It is therefore important to meet not just the needs of current residents but also to plan for the future. Second, I look forward to the challenge of trying to meet changing needs of our park users. For example, Andover's growing senior population will have different uses for parks than youth athletic associations which have driven many of our priorities and remain an important user group. Third, it's important that as Andover matures we consider how best to maintain our assets and budget for the costs of maintaining and replacing what we have. Describe your education/experience, which qualifies you to serve on this commission: I try to apply my skills as a finance manager and administrator at the University of Minnesota in planning, budgeting, and adjusting to unforeseen circumstances. My experience tells me that it's important to have a plan but that a plan should not be seen as ironclad or set in stone. I feel during my tenure on the parks commission we have tried to balance long term planning and meeting emerging needs. I am a licensed Dental hygienist working locally and treat many of the people in our community. When my patients learn how much I care about not only them, but the community as a whole, several have encouraged me to become more active in the local government. Public policy is very interesting, and as a local resident it also impacts my daily life. Im very aware of the legal requirements for infection control, licensing in this state; as well as some of the legal regulations for radiation, and hazardous waste as it pertains to dental practice. While my knowledge is more specific it demonstrates an ability to learn and adapt to ever changing legal and environmental regulations. I have excellent communication skills that I utilize everyday to help my patients. As you can imagine people can have a strong dislike for the dental office, so I have to utilize very strong interpersonal communication skills to overcome people's fears and encourage behavioral changes. This also demonstrates my ability to interact with all ethnicities and socioeconomic groups. Everyone has a mouth. Communication is key for me to help with positive decision making in the forms of a person making better choices or on a larger scale Park Dental my employer. I have often been included in pilot tests that impact if we will adapt new equipment or procedures to all 45 of our locations.
