Mr. Carlberg showed the EDA the location on the map provided in the packet of the location suggested by the ALSO. He believes a sign in that area would not be approved by the Anoka County Highway Department due to the sign being in the right -of -way and site line issues at the Hanson Boulevard and Station Parkway intersection. The EDA directed staff to go back to the ACSO and ask the Sheriff to reconsider the original sign location. DEPOT POND SIGNA GE-TEMPORAR Y BANNER DESIGN Mr. Carlberg reviewed at the last EDA meeting the EDA directed staff to have a sign company design some options for a temporary banner for Depot Pond on Bunker Lake Boulevard. 3 options were provided in the meeting packet. Mr. Carlberg is looking for direction on what sign option the EDA prefers. Mr. Carlberg stated staff is working with an Eagle Scout for the permanent signs around the pond, this could be an Eagle Scout project and would contain pictures and history of the area. The EDA discussed the banner options. The EDA decided to go with option 1, but would like to see the option 1 design with 3 different lettering types. Mr. Carlberg indicated he will have the sign company put together 3 designs using option 1. President Trude stated she would like to see some type of train motif from the art community on the city owned property located on the northeast corner of Quinn Street next to Walgreens. She suggested going out for an RFP. Commissioner Holthus suggested contacting the Transportation Museum in St. Paul. She stated they have a lot of train related items. UPDATE/TRIDENT DEVELOPMENT Mr. Dickinson indicated Trident Development is still interested in moving forward with their project, Estates at Arbor Oaks, a senior living facility. Trident is in the process of finding investors. City staff has offered Trident the option of assessing the water and sewer connection costs. There was none. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Holthus, Seconded by Goodrich to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. Carlberg, Community Dev ent Director SUBJECT: Hanson Boulevard Monument Sign DATE: June 7, 2016 INTRODUCTION The EDA is requested to continue discussions on the placement of a new monument sign along Hanson Boulevard NW south of Bunker Lake Boulevard NW. DISCUSSION The EDA is aware that staff has been working to locate a sign on Hanson Boulevard north of 133`d for several weeks. Staff had proposed a location on the northeast corner of Hanson Blvd. and 133`d Ave. on the Anoka County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) property. The ACSO did not support this location believing the proposed sign location may confuse people into thinking that the building is the Andover City Hall and secondly, that two large non - matching monument signs in the same vicinity would not be the most aesthetically pleasing. Staff has re- evaluated the Hanson corridor and believes a possible location for the sign exists just north of the frontage road as depicted on the attached aerial map. Any location along this line will need to be reviewed and approved by the ACHD for sight distances. ACTION REQUESTED Receive a presentation and provide direction to staff. Carlberg, Community Deve ent Director SUBJECT: Medians on Bunker Lake Boulevard DATE: June 7, 2016 INTRODUCTION (:9 The EDA is requested to receive an update on upcoming activities planned for the medians on Bunker Lake Boulevard NW. BACKGROUND Prairie Restorations on May 19th conducted a cool season overspray to kill unwanted weeds and vegetation. By mid June they will be performing a prescribed burn of the medians. During the burn the two inside lanes closest to the median will be closed. Following the prescribed burn Prairie Restorations will be planting larger pots of prairie flowers on the end caps of the median and will also be placing a flower seed mix throughout the median. Staff believes this is the best approach to establishing the prairie flower feature desired by the EDA. ACTION REQUESTED Receive a presentation from staff. Respectfully submitted, David L. Carlberg
