SIGN
1 the placement of a message board entrance /monument sign
nue and Hanson Boulevard. The original location was
'ounty Sheriff's Office (ALSO). Staff has now been
rnative sign location as the ACSO believes the proposed
thinking that the building is City Hall and secondly, that two
be aesthetically pleasing.
Mr. Carlberg showed the EDA the location on the map provided in the packet of the location
suggested by the ALSO. He believes a sign in that area would not be approved by the Anoka
County Highway Department due to the sign being in the right -of -way and site line issues at the
Hanson Boulevard and Station Parkway intersection.
Mr. Carlberg reviewed the options for the sign:
• Contact the ACSO for reconsideration of the original sign location.
• Construct an entrance sign, not a reader message board sign.
• Not do a sign at all.

Minutes — May 3, 2016
Page 2
The EDA discussed the sign location.
The EDA directed staff to go back to the ACSO and ask the Sheriff to reconsider the original
sign location.
DEPOT POND SIGNA GE-TEMPORAR Y BANNER DESIGN
Mr. Carlberg reviewed at the last EDA meeting the EDA directed staff to have a sign company
design some options for a temporary banner for Depot Pond on Bunker Lake Boulevard. 3
options were provided in the meeting packet. Mr. Carlberg is looking for direction on what sign
option the EDA prefers.
Mr. Carlberg stated staff is working with an Eagle Scout for the permanent signs around the
pond, this could be an Eagle Scout project and would contain pictures and history of the area.
The EDA discussed the banner options. The EDA decided to go with option 1, but would like to
see the option 1 design with 3 different lettering types. Mr. Carlberg indicated he will have the
sign company put together 3 designs using option 1.
President Trude stated she would like to see some type of train motif from the art community on
the city owned property located on the northeast corner of Quinn Street next to Walgreens. She
suggested going out for an RFP.
Commissioner Holthus suggested contacting the Transportation Museum in St. Paul. She stated
they have a lot of train related items.
UPDATE/TRIDENT DEVELOPMENT
Mr. Dickinson indicated Trident Development is still interested in moving forward with their
project, Estates at Arbor Oaks, a senior living facility. Trident is in the process of finding
investors. City staff has offered Trident the option of assessing the water and sewer connection
costs.
There was none.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Holthus, Seconded by Goodrich to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. The
meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.

SUBJECT: Hanson Boulevard Monument Sign
DATE: June 7, 2016
INTRODUCTION
The EDA is requested to continue discussions on the placement of a new monument sign along
Hanson Boulevard NW south of Bunker Lake Boulevard NW.
DISCUSSION
The EDA is aware that staff has been working to locate a sign on Hanson Boulevard north of
133`d for several weeks. Staff had proposed a location on the northeast corner of Hanson Blvd.
and 133`d Ave. on the Anoka County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) property. The ACSO did not
support this location believing the proposed sign location may confuse people into thinking that
the building is the Andover City Hall and secondly, that two large non - matching monument
signs in the same vicinity would not be the most aesthetically pleasing. Staff has re- evaluated
the Hanson corridor and believes a possible location for the sign exists just north of the frontage
road as depicted on the attached aerial map. Any location along this line will need to be
reviewed and approved by the ACHD for sight distances.

Receive a presentation and provide direction to staff.

SUBJECT: Medians on Bunker Lake Boulevard
DATE: June 7, 2016
INTRODUCTION
(:9
The EDA is requested to receive an update on upcoming activities planned for the medians on
Bunker Lake Boulevard NW.
BACKGROUND
Prairie Restorations on May 19th conducted a cool season overspray to kill unwanted weeds and
vegetation. By mid June they will be performing a prescribed burn of the medians. During the
burn the two inside lanes closest to the median will be closed. Following the prescribed burn
Prairie Restorations will be planting larger pots of prairie flowers on the end caps of the median
and will also be placing a flower seed mix throughout the median. Staff believes this is the best
approach to establishing the prairie flower feature desired by the EDA.
ACTION REQUESTED
Receive a presentation from staff.

David L. Carlberg
