Please state your reasons for requesting to be on the advisory commission checked above:
I have a sense of community. I am and have been a strong advocate for the City. I am
a good representative of an aging population that we cannot forget about.
Describe your education/experience, which qualifies you to serve on this commission:
MN School of Business, U of M, almost 30 years of local government experience which
gives me insight into the operations of both the EDA and municipal government
structures.
Describe your professional, civic or community activities, which may be relevant to this
commission:
I have been an IRS certified tax preparer for AARP /IRS for 14 years. I have been lead
instructor on tax law for the IRS and the MN Dept of Revenue for five years. This is a
volunteer position which has given me great insight into the needs of those with low
income, minorities and seniors.
Following are some projects I have been actively involved with as a member of the
EDA:
1. Clean up of the pond area next to Bunker Lake Blvd. Mike Knight and I met with the
Community Development Director and a representative from Prairie Restorations to
renovate the pond edges.
2. I have been an active advocate for the Senior population of Andover and all of Anoka
County. I encouraged the EDA and City Council to consider the addition of yet another
assisted living facility. Andover's population is aging. We need to provide facilities for
residents so they can stay in their "home- town."
3. I worked with Jule Trude and the Community Development Director (both of them) in
selecting the fagade for the four community signs. This past year, after observing the
signage in several other communities, I recommended landscaping enhancements for
our own signage.
4. Perhaps the accomplishment I am most proud of is the cleanup on Bunker Lake Blvd.
I have been and continue to strongly advocate purchase of the duplexes so this blighted
area can become a center piece of renovation.
5. With the completion of the new Wal -Mart there is still work to be done on what
remains of the medians.
6. I participate in City events and events in my own neighborhood promoting all that
Andover has to offer.
