Andover YMCA Community Center Advisory Commission Minutes April 1, 2013 Expansion - Allison met with the VP of YMCA New Development, Anita, as well as Jim Dickenson to discuss expansion needs /ideas. Within the next couple of months the city and YMCA will have a consultant come out to look at needs and figure out costs. Goal is to have all information compiled by Fall 2013. The YMCA would like to consider hosting a capital campaign to help raise money if costs come in too high to finance their portion of the expansion. Youth center, large multi - purpose space, big kids gym areas, outdoor splash pad and storage were all at the top of the Y expansion wish -list. Mr. Kellogg would like Mr. Howard to check to see how much the Courtyards of Andover is selling for. Does the commission want to take a look at incorporating banquet ideas /space into the building expansion or purchase building and have it be managed by the city? AHYHA formed a committee to identify building expansion needs. The top 4 items were: Additional Full Sheet of Ice Dryland Training Area Office Space Equipment Storage Mr. Chevalier handed out information which identified these areas as well as stated more than 1/z of the AHYHA ice is purchased elsewhere, most of which occurs at the National Sports Center. If an additional sheet of ice or dryland area was to be built, AHYHA estimates that teams will practice more often, increasing practice ice hours by at least 10 %. Adding an additional sheet of ice would also attract tournaments. Mr. Kellogg, asked Ted to identify the needs for a multi - purpose space. :.such as batting cages, etc. he also asked that Ted forward information gathered during by the sports dome task force to him regarding artificial turf and items that could be incorporated into an expansion. Ted mentioned that there are grants out there to help with costs of exercise bikes that generate power. Something for the Y to consider. Other Business: Allison spoke to commission about the incident involving a man videotaping young boys in the Andover YMCA locker rooms as well as other YMCA locations as well as Mariucci Arena.
